Principal's Message
I hope you are all enjoying the weekend before our official return to school. I enjoyed family time with my husband and son! My son, Quincy, enjoyed sledding for the first time! He favors tropical vacations like his momma, so it took some time to find the fun in wearing layers and layers of clothes to go out in the cold, but we're getting there! :-)
Students are returning!!! I couldn't be more excited!!! We will be experiencing the FIRST THREE DAYS OF SCHOOL on 2/24, 3/3 and 3/8. PLEASE REMEMBER none of us has done this before. Our Barbieri Family will be practicing flexibility and patience. We have created detailed plans regarding lessons, bus duties, bathroom use, etc. We will try everything we have until we get it right!. I will be sharing an entire google slides presentation with all of our families in the next day or two for you to review with our little hawks at home! It is currently being translated in the Office of Translation.
During the next two weeks I am asking for help from all of you as our teachers and students shift yet again into a new teaching and learning model. Teachers will be in their classrooms, with some students in the classroom, some students at home, maybe a service provider in the room, maybe the students in the room are logged into the google meets too with headphones to collaborate with peers at home, etc. As you can see the concurrent teaching and learning model encompasses many components and our teachers are diving right in! Our teachers need our support now more than ever as they navigate through this shift and establish routines and structures to support our students in our new "normal".
WE ARE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER! THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!
Descansen y disfruten el fin de semana,
Maria

- To accommodate returning in-person students and the teachers receiving them, we will have the FIRST HOUR of every first day of school, be an asynchronous learning hour for remote students. On 2/24, 3/3 and 3/8 remote students should log on at 10:05AM. From 9:05AM-10:05AM remote learning students should engage in asynchronous work.
- Classroom teachers will be sharing your child's updated schedule.
- LAST DAY FOR UNIVERSAL LUNCH IS TUESDAY 2/23!
- ***UPDATE!!!*** Students WILL be transporting their chromebooks to and from school each day. The district has now purchased bags for students to be able to carry them safely. This is also to assist us in ensuring that students have devices at home should they need to quarantine, a classroom shift to remote, asynchronous day, etc. The bags will be distributed to students in school.
- Students' headphones are to remain IN SCHOOL! Students should NOT take these home.

NEW Barbieri Family Members- BIENVENIDOS
Nadia Shah, Bilingual Grade 5 Classroom Aide
Zalma Garcia, Grade 1 Long-term Sub & Classroom Supervisor
My name is Zalma García and I would like to take this opportunity and introduce myself as the substitute teacher for Room 209 while Ms. Asch is on maternity leave.
I have student taught previously in Somerville and Cambridge Public Schools, and absolutely loved working in a first grade classroom. I have lived in Framingham most of my life and even graduated from Framingham High School. I have also spent the last few years teaching preschool aged children.
As a new member of staff at Barbieri Elementary, I am very excited to be working with a group whom I have heard great things about. And, as a former Barbieri Elementary student, I am thrilled to be back. I am looking forward to building a relationship with both you and the students.
