Congratulations to our 8th graders!
Please join us in congratulating our 2020 8th grade class at Kulshan Middle School. Our 8th graders have taught us so much about resilience, determination, and dependability. Though this is not how we wanted or envisioned to end this year, we appreciate your support and collaboration. We made this short video to try and capture all of the amazing moments of this year.

Kulshan 7th grade Film Festival
Though this isn’t what we originally planned to create this year, we are really proud of the work our kids did! Click here to watch the Film Festival. We are amazed by the talent, heart, and efforts of Lauren McClanahan from the Bellingham Youth Media Project. We hope you like our film, and we hope our kids watch it and feel connected to each other and our community. All student videos are compiled here. Thank you to each of you for supporting us along the way. We appreciate you! Jodie Schoolcraft and Tim Cosgrove

Recognizing Juneteenth 2020
On June 19, 1865, enslaved African-Americans in Galveston, Texas, were told they were free. Now, 155 years later, people in cities and towns across the U.S. continue to mark the occasion with celebrations. In recent years, particularly this year with nationwide protests, there is a renewed interest in this day that celebrates freedom. Several book lists and websites feature Juneteenth resources and conversation starters for parents and students.
Local Author Christine Day
We were so sad to have to cancel our March visit with Christine Day, the author of I Can Make This Promise. All 6th and 7th grade students read her book and were looking forward to meeting her. We have worked to bring you a positive alternative! On June 1, Mr. Shaffer and Ms. Day recorded a Virtual Q&A, with questions from students. Click here to watch!

Common Threads Update
Here at Common Threads, we’ve been busy growing food to distribute to our kids and families, developing learning resources for you to enjoy at home, and looking for other ways large and small that we can share some love during these strange times. We’d love to stay connected with you! Please consider: 1) Signing up to care for your school garden this summer (with social distancing protocols in place) or email me. 2) Attending one of our pay-what-you-can cooking classes 3) Following us on social media @CommonThreadsFarm. Please stay healthy and happy - and never stop learning and growing! Like a plant! Love and air hugs from Ruby, your Food Educator.
