March 2023

DEAR FRONTIER VALLEY FAMILIES

As we move into the spring, I want to share how much we love working with your little buffaloes here at Frontier Valley Elementary. Our dedicated staff works hard each day to create a successful environment for all students in our school. We are looking forward to sharing all of the growth that your child has made so far this year during conferences the week of March 6th.

Along with finishing out the second half of the year strong, we are also involved in planning for the 2023-2024 school year. In the coming months, our staff will begin the process of creating dynamic class placements for our students. We value the voice of our parents in this process. As an option, you may share with us some information that will be a piece of the conversation for class placement on this form. Please keep in mind that we value all of our staff members at Frontier Valley, and that this is not a teacher selection process. If you would like to give input on the learning environment that best suits your child, please send us your input on the form above by April 15th. We are looking forward to seeing all of you soon during parent teacher conference week.

Cheerfully,

Kiersten

SPRING BOOK FAIR

The spring book fair starts Friday, March 3!

Now is a great time to set up an eWallet for your young reader! An eWallet is a digital payment account allowing you to fund your child’s purchases in advance (like giving them a gift card). Your child just tells the book fair cashier his or her name, and the cashier can do a search and ring up the sale -- super simple!

Here's the link to create an eWallet for your student:

COUNSELOR'S CORNER

Happy March! This year sure feels like it’s flying by! As we look toward the approaching final months of the school year, I’m excited to begin my classroom lessons on career exploration. For our outgoing 5th graders, my classroom lessons will also focus on the transition to middle school.

I am looking for a few additional parents who are interested in being part of the School Counseling Advisory Council. The advisory council is a group of stakeholders who meet twice a year to receive updates on and provide feedback for the school counseling program. The Spring meeting is coming up in April. If you would like to be on the committee, please fill out this form.

Looking for pointers on how to praise your child in a way that grows their intrinsic motivation? Check out this article, The Ultimate Guide to Praising Your Kids full of excellent tips. Hint: try to avoid giving your child “person praise” (e.g., “You’re so smart!”) in favor of “process praise” (e.g., “I like the way you tried all kinds of strategies on that math problem until you finally got it!”)

As always, please don’t hesitate to contact me if you or your student needs some additional support. Wishing your family all my best!
