From Read Aloud Revival Podcast episode #144
It is so easy to get out of the habit of reading each day during the busy holiday season. Now is the time to jump back into it! Families can set goals and reflect on what you want to do for the next part of the school year. And just like adults wanting to set exercise goals we need a way to keep track of our goals and do them each day so it becomes a good habit. As the habit develops we begin to enjoy the task and actually seek it out, rather than trying to think how to avoid it! Definitely what we want to develop in our children.
Sarah Mackenzie, the author of the Read-Aloud Revival Podcast, has a new 2020 read aloud challenge for families. If you click on the title above the link should take you to the challenge where you can print (if you wish) a calendar to keep track of days and some tips for setting up the challenge with your children. She suggests ideas for setting up a reward and keeping track of things and of course suggestions that support children's reading and child/parent bonding.
Reading aloud together and making progress toward goals is a great way to develop a lifelong joy of reading within our children. Try it out! Have fun!

Title 1 Corner
Title 1 information
The Title 1 Plan has goals that fall under three areas: Student Academic Goals, Parent and Family Engagement Goals, and Staff Development Goals.
One of our Student Academic Goals is to build a love of reading in all of our students. Though this may not sound on the surface like an academic goal, it truly is one. If we have students that enjoy reading they will be ready to engage in reading time. The more students engage with books and read the stronger they will be as students! It is that simple.
