What is "Cyberbullying"?

"Cyberbullying" is when a child, preteen or teen is tormented, threatened, harassed, humiliated, embarrassed or otherwise targeted by another child, preteen or teen using the Internet, interactive and digital technologies or mobile phones.

Why do people Cyberbully?

When it comes to cyberbullying, many people are often motivated by anger, revenge or frustration. Sometimes people do it for entertainment or because they are bored and have too much time on their hands and too many tech toys available to them. Many do it for laughs or to get a reaction. However the cyberbully may not know that what they are doing is hurting others.

What can you do?

Don’t respond or retaliate. Sometimes a reaction is exactly what aggressors are looking for because they think it gives them power over you, and you don’t want to empower a bully. Save the evidence. The only good news about bullying online or on phones is that it can usually be captured, saved, and shown to someone who can help. Reach out for help – especially if the behavior’s really getting to you. You deserve backup.
