Monk Fryston Weekly News 31.3.23

The school target for next week is;

remember to make someone's day.

Bag2School - Clothing Collection - Friday 28th April

We are having a Bag2School clothing collection.. We will send bags home after the Easter break but you can use any black sacks etc. If you fancy a clothing clear out over the Easter Hols please save the clothing and bring it to school either Thursday 27th or the morning of Friday 28th April.

Eco Warriors - water-saving tips.

Our Eco Warriors would like to share some water-saving tips with you. The first tip is: SWITCH TO SHOWERS. Switching from baths to showers is an easy way to save water. If you’re already a shower person, then try keeping your shower to 4 minutes or less. Lots of water companies will send you a shower timer for free – check with your provider to find out.

Eco Warrior - river, canal or beach clean.

Can you help us do a river, canal or beach clean? Our Eco Warriors want to encourage children to clean up our waterways but we are unable to organise this as a school. If you have some spare time during the Easter holidays or at a weekend, it would be great if you could help clean a small section of a waterway to help our environment. Thank you!

Congratulations Mrs Ronicle.

We would like to congratulate Mrs Ronicle who has gained promotion to the position of Headteacher of St Joseph’s School, starting in September. Although this is a big loss to our school, it represents an excellent move for her. Governors will advertise for a new teacher immediately after Easter, and we hope to confirm our classes for next year in June.

Goodbye to Mrs Robinson

Sadly, Mrs Robinson will leave us at Easter. We would like to thank her for working with us since September and wish her well for the future. Miss Sowersby will support learning in Year 3 next term.

RSPCA Charity Day 28th April

Some of our Year 3 pupils are planning to hold a charity day on Friday 28th April in aid of the RSPCA. Children will be invited to come to school dressed on an animal theme (costume, accessories, or animal design on clothing) in return for a donation (in cash) to the RSPCA. There will also be games and activities taking place during the day. Further details will be announced after Easter.

Goodbye to Miss Pimblott

Miss Pimblott comes to the end of her teaching practice in Year 1 with us today, and we sadly have to say goodbye to her. She has been a great addition to our school and we will all miss her. We would like to wish her well in our future career.

Big Walk & Wheel

Thank you for an amazing effort in the Big Walk & Wheel over the last 2 weeks. It was wonderful to see so many children coming to school in ways that are healthy and good for the environment. We won’t know the final placings in the competition until after Easter, but with a score over 65% we are very well placed both in the UK and the North of England. This is brilliant!

Dates for your diary.

Sports Day this year will be on the afternoon of Wednesday 7th June. The Key Stage 2 production will be on 19th & 20th July.

Street Party at the Community Centre.

Free school meals for all years for pupils whose families receive financial support.

If you are in receipt of certain benefits, your child could also qualify for free school meals during all school years. To qualify you must be receiving:

  • Universal Credit, provided you have an annual net earned income of no more than £7,400, as assessed by earnings from up to three of your most recent assessment periods (£616.67 per month)

  • Income Support

  • Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance

  • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance

  • Support under part six of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999

  • The guarantee element of Pension Credit

  • Child Tax Credit, provided you are also not entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual household gross income that does not exceed £16,190 (as assessed by HMRC)

  • Working Tax Credit run-on, paid for four weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit

Please note that contributions-based benefits, including contribution-related Jobseekers' Allowance do not entitle you to claim free school meals.

Apply for free school meals

You will receive an instant decision on whether your application is successful. If it is, we will fully process the application in 5 working days and notify the school. Once the school has received this your child can begin enjoying free school meals. You should continue to pay until confirmation comes through. Schools may be able to arrange reimbursement of payment made while your entitlement is being confirmed.

Free school meals claims cannot be backdated. They are awarded from the date we receive the application, once eligibility is confirmed. This is because there is a legal requirement for a request to be made, before a free school meal can be provided. If you are not entitled to free school meals, you will be notified in writing.
