Returning to In-Person Learning: December 9th
Thank you for your continued support and partnership as we work together to provide online learning for our students, especially during this "pause".
The WLCSD K-5 and Middle and High School Basic Special Services programs will return to in-person learning beginning Wednesday, Dec. 9. This includes in-person Preschool and Prime Time Care programs.
We will continue to follow Oakland County and CDC safety protocols and expectations for our children, parents, and staff. We are committed to informing parents, and instituting safety precautions, including quarantine periods and possible interval closures, when situations arise.
With this return, it becomes even more important that we ALL follow important COVID safety protocols including wearing a mask at all times, washing hands, and social distancing.
We want to remain SAFE and able to continue IN PERSON learning at Oakley Park and all of our Walled Lake Schools-so we all must do our part.
Please also remember to REPORT cases of exposure, quarantine, and positive cases to our main office as soon as possible. This is important for us as we update our WLCSD Dashboard every day in an effort to keep everyone SAFE and maintain in person learning.
Thank you for everything you are doing and your support always.
Take care and be well,
Kristin Froning
Safety Reminders
Owls, let's all do our part!
1. Wear a mask in public places and when you are with anyone not in your own home.
2. Social distance. This is six feet away or more from all individuals to avoid direct contact.
3. Wash your hands frequently at home and when you are out use hand sanitizer.
4. Avoid large gatherings of any kind.
Reporting COVID Exposures and Quarantine
Please remember that is VERY IMPORTANT for all families and staff members to REPORT TO OUR MAIN OFFICE any COVID exposures, positive cases, and quarantine details to keep everyone safe at school. We keep important track of cases for the safety of all at school.
With the return to IN PERSON learning on Wednesday, December 9th, it is even more important that we keep track of these important details.
Please also remember to WEAR A MASK, SOCIAL DISTANCE, and WASH HANDS. This must be done to help stop the spread of COVID at home, in public, and at school.
Please see the important DEFINITIONS below.
"Quarantine" is the practice of keeping someone who might have been exposed to COVID-19 away from others. People in quarantine must stay home (usually 14 days), separate themselves from others, monitor their health, and follow directions from their state or local health department.
"Isolation" is the practice of separating people infected with the virus from those who are not infected. People in isolation (usually 10 days) must stay home until it's safe to be around others.
"Close Contact" indicates someone who has been within six (6) feet for a time greater than fifteen (15) minutes of someone who has COVID-19 symptoms with or without a mask within a 24 hour period.
"Positive" includes only those individuals with a lab-confirmed positive test.
Thank you for reporting important COVID information to our school office in a timely way for the safety of all.
Arrival Reminders
- Please remember that our doors do not open for students to enter the building until 8:50 AM each morning.
- Please pull all the way forward and do not stop in the middle or end of our drop off lane. Students should use our sidewalk to walk to their assigned doorway.
- Students must exit their cars from the passenger side along the sidewalk for safety purposes.
- Parents/drivers must stay in their cars.
- Students must enter at their designated entry points each morning when being dropped off by car.
- Students must walk directly to their classroom wearing their mask.
Dismissal Reminders
We will begin the dismissal process at 3:40 at this time. If you choose to pick up your students from the front of the building at the end the day please note the following changes:
- All parents/caregivers MUST wear a mask when at school.
- As in previous years, parents/caregivers will sign out students on the computer in the lobby.
- One parent/caregiver in the lobby at a time.
- All parents/caregivers must wait outside, respecting signage instructions and socially distance markers.
- Students will be dismissed in a manner that will avoid a large number of students in the hallway at the same time. (Student names will be read over the PA system. Our sign out form automatically generates a list of name that our secretaries read off.)
- PLEASE be patience and kind to one another as we work together to keep one another safe and healthy!
Students riding buses will be released to their assigned bus, loading one bus at at time. Buses will depart from Oakley Park as soon as all students are loaded and safely seated.
Owl Pick Up students will be called (by number) to the pick up line in groups of about 10 numbers. Thank you in advance to parents/caregivers for following requests/directions given by our staff.
Elementary Parent Teacher Conferences Changed to Jan. 28, 2021: After much consultation with staff and to ensure parents receive accurate and complete information about children’s progress, we are rescheduling the December 10 Elementary Parent/Teacher Conferences to Thursday, January 28, 2021.
With the change in staffing and classes that just took place with our in-person transition, we believe December 10 is too soon to give substantive feedback to parents. As always, parents can contact and check in with teachers at any time via email.
Teachers have completed a Student Progress Profile which provides information on Literacy and Math progress. These Profiles will be available in Family Access after4:00 pm on Thursday, December 10th.

Seeking Recipes, Photos and Student Entries!
Each year, the Walled Lake Consolidated Schools Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, (DEI), committee hosts a Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Celebration at Walled Lake Northern High School. This year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the event will be held virtually, January 18, 2021.
One of the wonderful traditions of this event is the shared experience of a multi-cultural dinner that feeds hundreds of participants. In an effort to keep this 21-year tradition alive, we are planning to share a virtual meal, but we need your help!
The committee is seeking photos of a traditional dish enjoyed by the families within our community. Staff, students, and community members are invited to take a picture of a dish that they make and a picture of the recipe and send them to JulieAmann@wlcsd.org. We plan to create a virtual recipe book to share with those that attend the MLK Day Celebration, so that our community can continue to share in a multi-cultural meal. This is a great tradition that celebrates and honors the diversity within our community.
Students are invited to creatively express themselves as they consider this years theme: I matter because… I belong because... T here are lots of possibilities for creating a project. It can be a piece of writing, music, art, or other visual that shows how you want to make a positive change and/or impact in the world.
Fill out an entry form below and attach your entry to the form.
