PĀNUI HARAREI - HOLIDAY UPDATE
Gladstone School Newsletter - 21/1/22
Te Karere a te Tumuaki (Principal's Message)
Kia ora tātou katoa (Hi/greetings/hello everybody). We are very much looking forward to seeing everyone back at school on Wednesday the 2nd of February and hope that you all have managed to rest up over the summer. This is a quick update to let you know a few key things as we get organised for the new school year.
Thanks very much to all of the wonderful people in our school whānau (family) who have helped out with the chickens, goats & pool over the summer holidays - your efforts are very much appreciated.

Thanks Kayla - $500 donation received.
We would like to thank Kayla very much for her generous contribution to Gladstone School. Kayla recently sold a property and has sent through her $500 donation to the school.
Working Bee - Gardens & Orchard Area (Monday 31st January 2-4pm).
We are going to have a bit of a tidy up, spread some lime and do some gardening on Monday the 31st of January between 2-4pm for anyone that is about and can lend a hand. Bring a weed-eater and/or wheelbarrow if you have one. The pool will be open if the kids would like a dip.
Bus Organisation
As per the school app notification, we are still waiting on times and schedules from GoBus. We have expressed urgency around this and will let you know details as soon as we know. For those of you who are not eligible to take bus transport, we are working on a plan for a paid option - we will let you know the outcome of this as soon as we know. In the meantime, those of you living in Greytown, Carterton or Masterton will have to privately transport students to and from school until something can be resolved. We understand this is inconvenient and are working to come up with a solution.
Start Up Stationery
Student stationery is at school ready to go. Students will be given their stationery at the start of the year - they do not need to bring it from home. Please see a link below to the list of what is being given out here. It was also sent out on the app.
Syndicate Information
Teachers will be sending out syndicate-specific information in the lead up to school starting. Please look out for this information via the school app and next weeks newsletter. Your seesaw accounts will need to be updated and new code will come home with students early in the term.
Y7&8 Abel Tasman Camp - Sunday 13th March to Friday 18th March
We will be organising 2 meetings, 1 for parent helpers and 1 for everyone else. Dates and times for these meetings will be advised shortly. Tent, cooking and travel groups will be organised at school by Graham, Kate and Belinda. In the first week we will send out a form for those who can assist with transport either to, or home from Wellington. We will also be sending home a form to see what equipment people are short of (packs, sleeping mats, sleeping bags etc) so we can help source these things - please don't rush out and purchase things as most often we can borrow items from friends and family.
If your child is going to be 12 years and 3 months or older by the time of the trip, we will need a copy of their vaccine pass send through to school for our folder. We are required to show them at the camping ground, on the water taxi and in the national park. This also applies to adults coming with us on the trip.
If you haven't done so already, please let us know asap if your child will be unable to come on the trip as we need to finalise ferry, bus and camp ground bookings. Those not coming will stay at school with Mrs Head and Mrs Webb.
Singing Lessons
Art Classes
Art Classes are due to start in the 2nd week of term for anyone interested. There was a great response last year and all the kids seemed to absolutely love it. Elissa Smith is keen to continue for the kids this year, but only for two days a week. The classes are $20 per child per week, with classes running from 3:15 to 4:30pm between Monday and Thursday. If you are keen, please email gladstone.artclass@gmail.com with your preferred day, and a back up in-case that day is unavailable.
