Hello TLA Families,
We had quite the eventful week. We always look forward to Parent Teacher Conference, as it is a perfect opportunity to connect and calibrate on the best next steps for supporting scholars. Thank you for your continued partnership and support.
Please remember that the school buses drop off scholars on Morse street. For the safety of all involved, we ask that you do not drop off on Morse street where the buses are currently off-loading scholars.
Here's what's on the docket for next week.
4/4 - Primary Awards Ceremonies
4/4 - Pre-ACT for Freshman and Sophomores
4/5 - Middle School and High School Awards Ceremonies
4/6 - Dress Down Day
4/7 - NO SCHOOL
Now, let's go be great.
Tavi Riddle - Principal, K4-5th
Priscilla El-Amin - Principal, 6th - 12th
If you were required to attend a conference and did not attend, teachers have made efforts to reschedule for Monday or Tuesday after school. If you do not have a conference set you will need to do so, prior to your scholar being admitted to school.
Please email your scholars teacher (homeroom teacher for middle and high school) to schedule your conference.

Beloit Public Library - Children's Area Input
The Beloit Public Library is remaking its children’s area into Discovery PLAYce, a children’s-museum-like environment that will have multiple hands-on interactive exhibits for kids ages Birth-to-6 and their families and caregivers. The library is asking The Lincoln Academy families for input. Please fill out this brief survey (https://forms.gle/tMifvEwNP4k1ioTHA) to help them determine how Discovery PLAYce might be most useful to you and your child(ren) before, after, or during school hours. To see an example of what Discovery PLAYce will look like, see Storyville here (click on the pictures to take a virtual tour): Storyville - Baltimore County Public Library (bcpl.info)
Thank you for helping our neighbor create a magnificent learning experience for our scholars and their families!

Primary Problem Solving
Music and Sound Waves in Physical Science
Scholars in physical science had fun studying music and sound waves. Their objective was to make a collection of sounds that deliberately use a regular pattern to create music. They played various musical instruments to explore rhythm, pitch, and sound. Scholars made water xylophones with glass beakers and colored water to demonstrate the more liquid the beaker held, the lower the pitch. They made conclusions about how sound waves travel through different mediums. They even collaborated in small groups and performed their own original music!

Mr. Anderson's Message
Hello TLA families, this month we are learning the virtue of PERSEVERANCE. Perseverance is “the ability to work through situations even when there are obstacles or challenges in the way”. We all experience challenges in our lives and have moments when we feel like we can’t do it or that we want to give up. Here at the Lincoln Academy we are focusing on tools scholars can use to help work through those challenges and grow instead of giving up. Our 3rd-8th grade scholars persevered through testing this week and did an AMAZING job!!!
Mr. Cieplewski's Message
Hello TLA families! Here are some trends from this week's infraction data. We continue to see a decrease in disrespectful behavior. We continue to encourage scholars to use their voice to advocate and communicate their needs. Our focus is on helping scholars understand an appropriate approach and the delicacy of time and place. One downward trend we are noticing is scholars being unprepared for class. Families, please make sure scholars have their school supplies and Chromebooks charged for every day.
6th - 10th ROAR Update:
Exciting news, we opened up Chip’s Store for the R.O.A.R. initiative this week. We were amazed at how many scholars had enough punches to purchase items from the store. The number one item scholars purchased was…..you guessed it snacks. Scholars also purchased backpacks (60 punches), water bottles (40 punches) and highlighters (20 punches). Keep up the great work scholars.

10th Grade Job Shadows
All 10th graders will be completing a job shadow this quarter in the career area of interest. Scholars interested in construction, electrical, and engineering job shadowed with CCI on the TLA campus. The scholars suited up in PPE and headed out to the job site for a full morning of learning on the job. Thank you to CCI for hosting out 10th graders! They all enjoyed it and learned a lot.
Hyrdoponics
All scholars will be participating in our second annual service learning day on May 4th. Ms. Olson and Ms. Johnson's homerooms picked to donate lettuce as their service learning project. Scholars planted seeds in the rockwell and then transplanted the sprouted seeds into the Fork Farm. Now is the time to watch it grow! The lettuce will be ready to harvest on our service learning day.
Today's Dreamers, Tomorrow's Leaders
Middle and high school scholars signed up to participate in Today's Dreamers, Tomorrow's Leaders on April 20th. They are busy getting ready for the event. Scholars have participated in etiquette classes, attended guest speakers, and had the opportunity to shop for their business professional attire to wear to the event. The girls have master how to shake hands.
