RTI Data Conferences will be held in the JSMS Conference Room during each grade level planning period. The first 45 minutes will be Reading and the last 45 minutes will be Math. Please arrive on time so that we can keep on schedule. In attendance at each meeting will be: Sevier admin, Paula Nickels, Carmen Bryant, Jim Nash and Brian Cinnamon, and Emily Helphinstine. Also attending the 8th Grade data conferences will be Chris Hampton and Nick Lingerfelt.

Sevier Instrument Placement Day


April 11th-April 15—High School Planning Appointments for rising 9th Graders—All families of rising 9th graders should have gotten a letter in the main from Dobyns-Bennett providing you with a time for your high school planning appointment. These meetings will take place at Sevier in the library. Please arrive five minutes prior to your assigned time and check in at the JSMS front office. We will call your child to the library to join you for your high school planning appointment with the DB counselor.

JSMS News:

I will be at a principals' meeting on Wednesday morning at the ASC. I will also be at a Visioning Meeting at the ASC all day Thursday. On Friday (and Saturday, too, actually), I will be at a training in Greeneville. I am sure that Nick and Jim will be able to handle all that comes their way. Please know that I will have access to email and can be reached if needed. -Holly

Forms will be placed in your mailbox this afternoon about Google Apps for Education. The forms will need to be signed by parents and returned to their homeroom teacher ASAP.



CALLING A LOCK DOWN FROM ANY PHONE


During our tabletop meeting a at the beginning of the semester, we discussed having the ability for teachers to make lockdown calls from any phone in the building. We have confirmed the instructions for being able to do this. From any school phone you should be able to access the intercom system using the instructions below. You may want to print these instructions and place them by your phone.

We will be having our RTI Math and Reading Data Conferences on April 5th. Again, LA will meet during the first 45 minutes of your planning times. Math will meet during the last 45 minutes of your planning times.



Hallway Picture Clings

We have wonderful athletic picture clings hanging in our hallways. We would love to have add clings in the hallways that represent the great work going on in our classrooms and other extra-curricular classes. If you have pictures of current teachers and students that you would like to see hanging in the hallways that represent our work, please send those pictures to Holly. THANKS!

Important Evaluation Information

Administrators will no longer have access to entire self-scores in the observation portal. All teachers will now have to enter self-scores by logging into the portal on teh TN Compass site. Kingsport's Interactive School Zone Map

Kingsport now has an interactive website in which you can type an address and determine school zone. You can access this map from a link on the KCS website, Parents, School Zones / Street Directories or click here.

Once on the interactive page, click on the magnifying glass and type in the address in question. If the address is a city location, the site will zoom to the location and identify the corresponding school zone. If nothing happens, the address is NOT in the city of Kingsport.

Education Energy Camps

The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC) Office of Energy Programs today announced that applications are currently available online for the 2016 K-12 Energy Education Camps. The four-day educational sessions will provide K-12 educators with information and resources needed to teach the science of energy and energy conservation in the classroom.

While a school may be represented by one educator, it is highly recommended that teams of two educators from a school attend the camp and work together to develop and conduct an energy education program. K-12 educators are invited to apply for one of the following two camps:

  • Montgomery Bell State Park in Dickson County (west of Nashville) -June 6-10
  • Pickwick Landing State Park in Hardin County(east of Memphis) - June 13-17


Teams selected to participate in Energy Camp will be provided with complimentary lodging and meals and will receive energy related classroom materials valued at $200. For more information or to access applications, pleaseclick here. Applications must be received byApril 15, 2016.

Friendly Reminder

Please remember and share with KCS staff that, according to the Employee Handbook, the use of scented perfumes, lotions, etc. is discouraged in all KCS buildings. Spring is a time when allergies really flare up, so anything we can do to reduce allergens in a building is appreciated! Thank you for sharing this reminder with your staff.



Learning Sessions Announced


The Tennessee STEM Innovation Summit will be held May 17-18, 2016 in Nashville, TN. Summit sessions are designed to provide attendees opportunities to interact with educational leaders and practitioners who are seeing success with integrating STEM practices in their classrooms and communities.

2016 Essay Contest

All submissions for the TDOE 2016 Essay Contest must be received by 5 p.m. CDT onFriday, April 8. The essay prompt is "My teacher has inspired me to …" All Tennessee public school students in grades kindergarten through twelve are eligible to participate. For contest details, click here.
