2018-19 with Mrs. Prell
What is Study Center?
- Study Center is for sixth-, seventh- and eighth-grade students who need extra support in managing their academic life.
- Students' past or present teacher(s) and/or Pioneer's counselors identify those who need additional support in developing an academic mindset while meeting personal responsibilities.
- With over twenty years of experience, Mrs. Prell helps students use strategies that improve academic skills and inspire curiosity.
- Class meets daily for one period in a small or a medium group setting.
Objectives
Students will...

Students: Please bring your charged iPad, Binder Reminder and supplies to class every day.
DAY-BY-DAY
- BINDER REMINDER CHECK: Students record homework and class work for all subjects in their Binder Reminders. All sections are completed daily
- ACADEMIC GOAL (priority): Current homework
- ACADEMIC GOAL (secondary): Missing assignment(s), i.e., red box(es) in Aeries
MONDAY: PERSONAL REFLECTION: Students respond to a prompt in their journals.
TUESDAY: Aeries Check - Set Goals
WEDNESDAY: Organization Check
THURSDAY: Aeries Check - Follow Up
FRIDAY: LEARNING LOG: Students reflect on personal and academic learning in their journals.

NOTE: As a student of Pioneer Middle School, follow the PBIS model or Positive Behavior Intervention Support taught at our campus. Refer to information about PBIS on page 9 in the Binder Reminder.
CONSEQUENCES
- First or Second Offense: Warning; Teacher-Student Conference
- Third or Fourth Offense: 5-minute timeout with reflection; Parent Contact
- Fifth Offense: Multi-paragraph reflection paper; Parent Contact
- Sixth Offense: Office referral
REWARDS and POSITIVE EXPERIENCES
- Positive notes or phone calls home
- Noteworthy grades, marks for citizenship and work habits
- Games
- Music while we work (when appropriate)
- Natural aromatherapy (unless there are allergies)
- Hot chocolate (fall/ winter/ cold weather)

A Place to Learn and Grow
Grading
Students have a chance to demonstrate mastery of concepts throughout the semester and receive full points. Scores are updated regularly in Aeries to provide timely feedback.

0 = no attempt
1 = Emerging
2 = Developing
3 = Proficient
4 = Advanced

Homework
Correct practice at home as demonstrated by teachers in each class increases the chances that students will achieve mastery.
In Study Center, students earn full points for "Aeries Check" when they submit assignments 100% in all classes and when they maintain As, Bs and Cs in all subjects.
