NOTRE DAME CATHOLIC PRIMARY SCHOOL
24 February 2022
Dear Parents and Staff
Over the past few weeks our Leadership Team has been involved in countless meetings about the Covid-19 situation in our schools and our proposed response to, most likely, when rather than if, a positive Covid case was to be reported in our school community. The main thing that we’ve learnt from these meetings is that things very rarely remain the same. What is considered the appropriate action today, may change tomorrow and we are constantly adjusting to suit current rules, regulations and circumstances. Our major concern remains the safety and wellbeing of the children and our staff. Thus, we have walked through various scenarios, put together PPE kits and maintained practices to ensure the safest possible school environment. One such practice which hasn’t been mandated but may be should the number of hospitalised Covid patients increase, is the wearing of masks by children from Year Three upwards. Whilst I am certainly not about to insist upon this occurring at this stage, as some schools have, research suggests that the wearing of masks is a significant factor in reducing the spread of infection. It has always been the case that children are permitted to wear protective masks whilst at school at any Year level and I am very happy to support parents if they feel this is appropriate for their children to do so. Just another thing to think about and consider.
MERIT ASSEMBLIES
Again, due to the current circumstances, we are not able to gather as a whole school for the presentation of Merit Certificates. To allow our Student Leaders to have the opportunity to host these Assemblies, they will live stream the Acknowledgement of Country and the Prayer to each of the classes. After this, either a member of the Leadership Team or the class Teacher will present the Awards with the Student Leaders live streaming announcements to conclude the Assembly after the presentations.
FEE STATEMENTS FOR 2022
Statements have now been emailed to all families with the school fees for 2022.
Please contact administration if you have not yet received your statement so we can provide a copy.
Included with the statement was a Payment Options Advice form. There are quite a few payment options available for families to select from with all payment plans commencing on 28 February 2022. Could you please complete and return this information to administration prior to this date to enable us to set up requested direct debit plans to commence by 28 February 2022.
Thank you

Sacrament of Penance
Due to the current COVID restrictions we have had to make some changes to how the children will be receiving the Sacrament of Penance:
1. Parent/Child Workshop: This will be distributed digitally via SeeSaw. Miss Horne and Miss Tana will send out the PowerPoint slides next week. Work packs will also be sent home with activities for parents to complete with your child by the end of Week 6.
2. Reconciliation Retreat Day – Tuesday 1 March: This will be co-ordinated by 24:7 Youth Ministry group in the School Hall. Students are to wear their sports uniform with their white polo shirt. Unfortunately, due to regulations regarding classes mingling, students receiving the Sacrament not in Year 3 will not be able to attend the retreat. We will negotiate with the presenters to see if there are materials that we can share with families that these students can complete in class.
3. Father Quynh visit: Father will visit the Year 3 classes on Wednesday 9 March at 10am.
4. Commitment Masses – Saturday 12 March at 6pm and Sunday 13 March 10am: Children are only required to attend ONE Mass.
Forms will be sent out closer to the date which the children are required to sign.
5. Reconciliation Celebration:
3M Reconciliation: Wednesday 16 March at 9.45am
3P Reconciliation: Wednesday 23 March at 9.45am
Children from other Year levels who have enrolled to receive the Sacrament will be allocated one of the Wednesdays and parents will be advised once this has been determined. Parents are welcome to attend however, due to group gathering regulations, siblings and extended family will not be able to join us.

YEAR 4 CLASS NEWS
We have had a fabulous start to school in Year Four!
Although it’s only Week Four, we have been working very hard and completed some outstanding work already. We have started by coming up with practical ideas on ways we can work and cooperate in order to build a happy, positive and safe learning environment. We are also “dreaming big” and setting some inspirational goals for the year ahead.
In Religious Education, we have been learning more about the Sacrament of Penance. Although many of us received this Sacrament of healing last year, there’s still plenty to learn about God’s love, forgiveness and healing.
In English, we have started the term with poetry writing with the goal of writing a diamante poem. We love to use figurative language and our teachers love to read our descriptive thoughts.
In mathematics, we have been learning all about numbers in the tens of thousands, so parents if you’d like to up our pocket money, we’re very good at working with large numbers!
During HASS we have started the year learning about Australia’s First Peoples and the ways Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are connected to country and place. We’re enjoying finding out about the archaeological discovery of Mungo Man and Mungo Lady over 40, 000 years ago!
In Art, we have outlined a silhouette of our heads with fine lines to create a collage representing ourselves. Take a look at our final products!

P&F UPDATES
Shrove Tuesday/Pancake Day
Shrove Tuesday is the day before Ash Wednesday (the first day of lent) and after the success of last year, the P&F is going to provide pancakes for all classes on Tuesday 1st March. It will look a little different this year due to the new guidelines within schools, but we’ll make it work safely. Thank you to the small group of volunteers who will be preparing, cooking and serving on the day, and to Clare Grosser for leading the team and organising the ingredients.
P&F Meetings
The first P&F meeting of the year was held last week via Microsoft Teams and at this stage the meeting scheduled for week 8 will also be online. Later this term, P&F Secretary Bec will email a call out for agenda items, and she’ll be sure to include the Class Representatives in her email. If there is any business you would like to raise at the P&F meeting, or if you would like to attend online, please respond to Bec’s email, or through your Class Representative and we can forward you the link.
ySafe Cyber Safety Hub and Parent TV
Don’t forget that the P&F has funded memberships for the whole school community to the ySafe Cyber Safety Hub and Parent TV.
To access the hub, please use this link: https://nds.cybersafetyhub.com.au. You will get access to cyber safety guidelines, tips on how to set up parental controls, reviews of all the latest games and apps, plus much more.
To access Parent TV, go to www.parenttv.com/membership and enter our school's code “notredame.” You can set up a profile for yourself and your children and you will get emails with content relevant to their ages. Parent TV has pulled together a team of trusted parenting experts in the areas of health, technology, behaviour and everything in between and created a range of easy to access 2-5 minute videos answering just about every parenting question under the sun.
