How Did the War start?
The "spark" that started the First World War was the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand. Both he and his wife were murdered in Sarajevo on June 28, 1914. Ferdinand was heir to the Austrian throne. He was going to be the next ruler. But he was killed by a Serbian. Then Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia because of the assassination.
The Assassination
The First World war started when a Serbian assassinated Archduke Franz Ferdinand. Both he and his wife was murdered in Sarajevo on June 28,1914.
Trenches?
Trenches are like ditches. They were usally shaped like zigzags. The trenches were usally filled with muddy water or often flooded. The soldiers ate and slept in them.
Technology? Weapons?
Some of the technology and weapons the soldiers used during the war were airplanes, submarines, tanks, gas masks, and poisin gas and they hid in the trenches.
What Else was Happening?
Aliied Powers? Central Powers? Neutral Nation?
The United States were not involved they were neutral but until April 6, 1917. The United States was involved in the war because of Germany was sinking 3 American owed trade ships in March. So on April 6, 1917 Woodrow Willson asked congress if he could declare war on the Central powers. The United States joined the Allied powers. Then after the war the Allied powers won the war.
