Mid-Year Is Upon Us!
Hello Raider Nation --
I hope everyone had a terrific weekend and you are enjoying the snow day! If you haven’t received the notification yet, we have a 2hr delay tomorrow, Tuesday, January 15.
The first of many meetings with our senior class will occur this Wednesday during Raider Time. We will discuss graduation, auditions for performers and speakers, and cap and gown information. There were a couple of items for staff:
1. If you are new to AHS and plan to attend graduation, please order your cap and gown. An email was sent by Jeannete Bonomo-Thomas.
2. We are looking for staff members to assist in the auditions for performers and speakers. Please see Jeannette Bonomo-Thomas.
We were scheduled to have department meetings today. Your ITL will be in touch to reschedule this meeting as everyone needs to complete the Atholton Values activity. Please stay tuned.
Mid-year conferences will begin next week. Your administrator will provide you a list of times to sign up to meet. You will need to make sure you have all of your artifacts (8 total – 4 from Domain 1 and 4 from Domain 4) uploaded. Additionally, you will need to have your mid-year data for your SLO. All should be uploaded BEFORE your meeting.
Next week is midterm exam week. Please see the schedule below (especially with the impending inclement weather forecasted for the weekend). The schedule has all of the different scenarios if we miss school. Also, remember to adhere to the exam date for YOUR period. Exams that span more than your allotted day should not take place.
Finally, I had the opportunity to attend the 25th Annual Howard County Dance Festival this past weekend. I was truly impressed by the quality of routines put on by each school. However, I must say that the Atholton dancers were sensational! Kudos to each of them and their outstanding teacher, Mrs. Heather Haffey. Howard County is a special place where the arts are valued and our students are allowed to showcase their talent.
Below is a message that went home to families from HCPSS. If you happen to know of a family that is in need due to the government shutdown, please refer them to the information below or to someone in Student Services -- THANK YOU!
See you later tomorrow morning.

Government Shutdown Assistance
Dear families,
The ongoing shutdown of the federal government has caused financial hardship for too many of our friends and neighbors. Additionally, we know that students are experiencing anxiety and fear for their family's financial situation. I wanted to let you know of a few supports that are in place to help at this time.
Howard County families who have lost pay due to the shutdown may immediately apply for the Free and Reduced-Priced Meals (FARMs) program and the HCPSS Food and Nutrition Office will determine their eligibility status within 24-48 hours. Families that would not ordinarily qualify for the FARMs program could be eligible for the remainder of the school year because of the current loss of income.
Families that are adversely impacted, including those who do not receive FARMs assistance, will have the remainder of the school year to pay off any meal balances incurred during the government shutdown.
Additionally, many students may be suffering fear or anxiety about their family’s current financial situation. Student Services staff at each school are prepared and available to assist students at any time during the school day. Additionally, numerous resources for families are identified on the HCPSS website, and other supports are available through the Howard County Department of Community Resources and Services.
