NEW!!! Principal's Message
Hello all,
It is incredible how quickly the year is winding down. Upon our return to school on Monday November 29th, 2021 we will start Trimester 2 and students may have a new elective class on B days. Schedules will be provided for them that morning in their community class. Our classes are pretty full and schedule changes cannot be made. If you have any questions or concerns regarding your student's schedule please do not hesitate to contact your grade level counselor:
7th grade Tiffany Shaffer: tiffany_shaffer@csd28j.org
8th grade Chris O'Connor: chris_oconnor@csd28j.org
In middle school oftentimes we need to take pauses and refocus our intentions and routines. Starting the week of November 29, 2021 we are going to pause PRIDE and students will report to their community class at the end of the day on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. We are anticipating this to take place for 3-4 weeks. We want to make sure that we are thoughtfully and thoroughly making connections with students, reviewing, reflecting and practicing our daily routines that promote a safe and caring environment at CMS. The following series of expectations will be reviewed with students: Breakfast and Lunch Expectations, Hallway & Passing Time, Bathroom Expectations, Appropriate Language, Technology Usage, Cell phones and Earbuds, and Recess Reminders.
Thank you all for your ongoing support to make CMS such an amazing place to be at.
Kind regards,
Johanna-

Purpose of AVID Binder
What is AVID:
AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) is a nonprofit that changes lives by helping schools shift to a more equitable, student-centered approach.
What is the purpose of the AVID binder?
Organization is an important skill in school, career and other aspects of daily life. The AVID binder is an organizational tool to help students maintain notes and school work in one place. Students are expected to maintain a binder, which has been provided to them along with most of the necessary items needed. They are expected to keep it organized using the rubric they have reviewed during PRIDE.
There will be a weekly Binder Check to support students keeping their binder organized and ensure they have all of their materials needed for class. Students should spend no more than 20 minutes each day organizing and completing their notes.
How can I support my child at home?
Regularly check your child’s backpack and AVID Binder. All papers should be placed in the binder rings in the proper class section. Remove unnecessary papers. We encourage you to reference the attached checklist/rubric.
What should be in the AVID Binder?
Binders must be good quality 2 1/2-inch/3-inch three-ring binder with pocket inserts.
