Is your student(s) spending more time online?
Education Is Safety When Using the Internet!
Dear Belmont Families,
You are all loved and missed so much! Mrs. Choi and I want you all to know that we are here for you and you may contact us at any time during our school hours from 7:55 am- 2:55 pm. Please note that Mrs. Choi is only available on Monday and Tuesday during school hours. The best form of contact is through email. Please email me at ewaidapi@pwcs.edu or Mrs. Choi at choikh@pwcs.edu.
The Internet provides several tools at our fingertips. It is a great place to browse for information or simply as a mode of communication. As our children learn to navigate the Internet and all it has to offer, we want to instill in them how to use the Internet safely, kindly, respectfully, and truthfully. This will ensure that they will have a great experience when using the Internet. A friendly reminder that when using any social media apps such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, Tik-Tok, Snapchat, and YouTube, the requirement is that your student is 13 years of age. As parents and caretakers, we need to be mindful of what our child(ren) are exposed to.
With that said, I want you all to think of the following analogy when it comes to using internet services and our devices (tablets, cellphones, etc.). When we first started driving, we needed a permit and needed to be trained with our parents and attend driving school. After we successfully pass the permit stage, we were then trusted to obtain a driver's license knowing that we will be safe, respectful, and truthful.
I hope you see where I'm going with this - driving is a privilege and at any time if I don't adhere to the law, my privileges can be taken away for me. The same goes for all services that come along with the Internet, such as social media apps, browsing the internet, or playing games online; students must first be trained to use the Internet correctly, and if they can't use the Internet responsibly or safely, their privileges should be limited or put on pause as seen fit by the parents.
To help educate your child(ren) about the proper use of the Internet, Mrs. Choi and I have created lessons on our Belmont webpage for all grade levels to help students understand the importance of using the Internet and being a digital citizen. Please refer to our PWCS webpage for additional information.
Kind Regards,
Mr. Ewaida and Mrs. Choi
