A huge thank you to all of the fabulous volunteers that helped make each of these events a success. (Be sure to visit our Facebook page to see pictures of these wonderful events.)
We look forward to seeing more friendly faces next week at Grandparents' Lunches, and Family Bingo Night!
Tech Talk!
We are so excited to see so many of our students embracing technology in the classroom. Just a friendly reminder, that Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) is a privilege. - Students must connect to and sign into our school’s Wi-Fi, GCPS-Mobile, to access the Internet.
- Students may only use devices when the teacher has said that it is time to use your device.
- Students may only use teacher directed websites and apps.

Fundraiser Orders Due Friday 9/9!
There is just one week left to help support our Fall Fundraiser! This will be the school's main fundraiser for this year. There are lots of great items to choose from in the catalogs, including magazines and even more items available online! Our goal is for each student to sell 10 items. As a special reward, all students that sell 20 items will earn a limousine lunch with Mr. DiFilippo. Students also have opportunities to win prizes for every two items sold. See the parent letter included in your fundraiser packet for more details.
Your support of this program means so much to the students at Dyer. The money raised last year, went directly to enriching our students' education. Specifically, we were able to purchase Lucy Calkins Units of Study for Reading and 35 guitars for our music program! We could not have provided these opportunities without your help.

Media Center News
Dear Parents and Families:
Reading for pleasure unlocks the power of information and imagination and helps children discover who they are. Here’s what you can do to help children develop stronger reading skills and a love for reading:
· Set the example. Let children see you read.
· Have a collection of books in your home. Update this collection routinely to keep pace
with changing tastes and reading skills.
· Support our school’s Book Fair. Allow your children to choose their own books
to read.
Our Scholastic Book Fair is a reading event that brings the books kids want to read right into our school. It’s a wonderful selection of engaging and affordable books for every reading level. Please make plans to visit our Book Fair and be involved in shaping your child’s reading habits.
The money raised at the book fair help our school’s Media Center program. For example, the funds raised at our book fairs help pay for author and illustrator visits.
Here are the dates and times for the Bookaneer Book Fair.
Book Fair Dates: September 26 – September 30
Shopping Hours: Mon-Tues 8:15 AM - 3:15 PM
Wed-Thurs (early release/conference days) 8:30 AM - 4:00 PM Fri 8:15 AM -12:15 PM
Payment: Cash, *Checks (made out to Dyer Elementary), and credit cards (adults only).
*If sending your child with a check, please send a note or write on the memo line the max amount your child may spend.
Remember to send enough money to cover the 6% sales tax.
If you’re all booked up during Book Fair week be sure to visit the Book Fair online at http://bookfairs.scholastic.com/homepage/jgdyerelementaryschool. Our Online Fair is from September 23 to October 3. All online orders will be sent to the school and delivered to your child after the book fair ends.
We look forward to having you participate in our Fair, and remember, all purchases benefit our school.
Sincerely,
Shirley Langford

Donations Needed for Fall Festival Baskets
Parents,
We need your help! Each year at the Fall Festival, we raffle off fabulous themed baskets. This would not be possible without your help! In order to make sure we have enough items for each themed basket, we divide them among grade levels (see below). Please consider helping to "fill our baskets"! Donations for baskets will be accepted through Friday, September 30th, and may be given to classroom teachers or dropped off in the front office. Proceeds from the baskets will support our cultural arts program here at Dyer. If you prefer to make a monetary donation, that is welcome too, simply send in your desired contribution to your child's classroom teacher or the front office. Someone from our staff will then use your monetary contribution to shop for items to fill your grade level's basket.
