Thank you!
Dear ECSD Families,
We have finished our first full week of the school year; thank you to everyone who made it happen! It isn't always easy but creating these learning experiences for our students makes it all worthwhile. The old saying of "when the going gets tough, the tough get going"; describes East China School District staff and our families. Each moment created for our students is supported by a whole team of ECSD employees that want the very best for our students. I hope that the ECSD team and our families have time to relax and enjoy the beautiful fall weekend.

Marine City Middle School Staff: The year we will adapt, change... and grow !
MCMS Custodians Rock!
The MCMS crew of Robert Rose, Mark Markel, William Andrews, along with the rest of the custodial crew at the MC Campus, have worked non-stop in preparation for the return of students this year. This crew has put in countless hours since school shut down in March, well beyond the normal “summer cleaning” that usually happens. Not only did this crew help with Food Pick-Up each Wednesday, but they performed their normal duties, along with all the extras that were asked, such as taping our “roadway” throughout the hallways for students to follow, installing sanitation machines in each classroom and hallways, relocating furniture from classrooms in order to provide more room for students, as well as the deep cleaning that is done continuously throughout the day, into the evening when everyone goes home. This custodial crew went above and beyond their job duty, and they did it with a smile on their face knowing that it was what needed to be done in order to get our students back into school. We would not be able to move forward without this great group of employees who keep going! If you get a chance, give a shout out and a thank you to this group of custodians, as well as all the crews around the district - they are our unsung heroes!
Frontline Workers - MCMS Office Staff
If you call or visit the school at anytime, most likely the first person you will talk to is the school secretary. These are the people who save the day by answering questions, getting students their missing work, or simply offering a kind word to those who enter and seem to need it. We at MCMS have two top notch frontliners who play a vital role each day in keeping the building running.
Julie Haehnle
Mrs. Haehnle is starting her 5th year as secretary at Marine City Middle School. She has worked in the district since 2005 in various roles as a sub, Kinderacademy and part time MCMS parapro. What she likes best about being at the middle school is that “Everyday is a new adventure. I like working with the students and parents in our community.” Mrs. Haehnle stated that “Working with a great staff that feels like family” is one of the things she likes about her position. In her spare time you can catch Mrs. Haehnle on her boat and socializing with family and friends.
Jeanne Westrick
Mrs. Westrick has been a part of the Marine City Middle School office crew for the last 5 years. She has worked in the district since January 2009 serving as a noon aide, parapro, and as a part of the ECEC Child Care program. When asked what she likes about being at the middle school, her response was, “The kids are awesome! They’re so fun and you never know what you’re gonna get! It’s always an interesting day here at the middle school.” Mrs. Westrick also commented that, “I like my job, I like to stay busy and it certainly keeps me busy! It’s a little of everything...interactive, creative, etc…..makes it enjoyable!” When Mrs. Westrick is not in the office she is at home on the family farm where she spends time with her happily married husband and three kids who all graduated from MCHS.
Teacher Staff Spotlight - Beth Trudeau
Beth Trudeau has been a first grade teacher at Pine River Elementary School. This year she will be teaching first grade virtual students.
Beth grew up in St. Clair and graduated from St. Clair High School. She spent most summers of her teenage years as a lifeguard, swim lesson instructor, and swim team coach at the city pool in St. Clair. She is married to Dan and has two sons; Ben who is 16 and Evan who is 12. As a family they have enjoyed many trips to New York City where they visit dear friends and indulge in one of Beth’s passions...theatre. She has seen 6 shows on Broadway. Beth is also a liver transplant recipient and advocate for organ donation.
This is Beth’s 22nd year of teaching. Her first 20 years were spent at Eddy Elementary and the last two were at Pine River. She taught kindergarten for five years and this will be her 17th year in first grade. Beth decided to become a teacher because her mom was a teacher and she has always enjoyed working with children.
What Beth loves most about teaching is the connections she makes with her students. Being able to learn what her students enjoy and hearing about their lives outside of school helps to build strong relationships upon which learning can grow.
In her spare time she enjoys reading and going to the theatre. She also loves to take walks and enjoy nature.
Beth is very excited to take on a new challenge as a virtual teacher this year. It is something very new to her and she hopes to learn a lot.
