K-8 SCHOOL NEWS
MISS D.’S SUCCESS TIP OF THE WEEK ~ Write everything down! Online scholars tend not to write their notes because they’re working on the computer. However, physically writing down notes can have a positive impact on learning! Also, don’t assume you’ll remember important information. Always have a notepad and pen or pencil by your computer to take notes as needed throughout the work day!
ONLINE HIGH SCHOOL NEWS
AVID ~ Collaborative learning is an educational strategy where groups of scholars work together. It is based on the concept that learning and problem solving is social. Our teachers use collaborative learning experiences like Learning labs, AVID tutorials, small study groups, and online discussion boards. These strategies carry with them many benefits including:
Developing academics and social skills
Encouraging more engagement and involvement in the learning process
Self-reflection of their own strengths and weaknesses
Observational learning from their peers to enhance problem-solving
MARCH MADNESS ~ The homeroom class that was in the lead last week was Mrs. Ginn’s homeroom once again! This is the last week of our March Madness attendance challenge. Which homeroom will earn the prize?
MRS. SMITH’S TIP OF THE WEEK ~ Take notes! Studies have found that writing out notes with an actual pen and paper increases the percentage of information retained in our brain. If your scholar is struggling to remember reading materials and information taking notes can help your scholar prepare for the unit exam and do well in courses. For more information and note-taking tips, reach out to the course teacher.

Concurrent Enrollment Orientation
Our high school scholars in grades 10 -12 are invited to join us this Wednesday, March 27 at 12 pm for a presentation about the High School Concurrent Enrollment Program. The programs give eligible scholars an opportunity to enroll in college courses while attending high school and simultaneously earn college credit.
MULTI-TIERED SYSTEMS OF SUPPORTS (MTSS) ~ This week is focused on at-home support within the MTSS framework. Learning coaches often ask, how do I know if my scholar is successful? How is additional help going to be provided, by whom, how often, and for how long? How can I help with interventions at home? How will I know if the interventions are successful? For learning coaches with elementary and middle school scholars, if their child scores Tier 2 or Tier 3 on the Istation benchmark, their scholar should complete lessons about three times per week for 30 minutes each time to ensure they obtain the skills they need to be successful!
SOCIAL-EMOTIONAL LEARNING (SEL) SPOTLIGHT ~ Before leaving your house in the morning, you probably make at least 10 decisions, some big and some small. Most of the decisions that we make have both positive and negative consequences and often the bigger the consequences, the more difficult it is to make a decision. Join Mrs. Gonzalez and watch this SEL video spotlight to learn more about what important considerations come into play when making decisions of all sizes.
