November 22-26 District is CLOSED for Thanksgiving Break
A WORD FROM MR. SISSON
Dear Skyview Families,
I hope that families were able to enjoy a relaxing time during fall break. With the 2nd quarter in full swing we know that the holiday season is quickly approaching and the quarter will be over before we know it. This is a busy time of year with extracurricular activities, fall sports, plays, and performances. We want to encourage our families to come out to support all of our students and their activities. I would also encourage families to support the SMS community through our School Accountability Committee (SAC). This is a great opportunity for families to provide feedback and discuss the needs and next steps for SMS.
We are excited to announce that our WEB program will be hosting the 1st Trunk-or-Treat at SMS on Saturday, October 30, from 1-3 PM. Please come out to support our WEB program and join in a fun afternoon of activities with the Power Zone community. We are also looking forward to our first play of the season starting November 6th. This year's fall play is “Law & Order; Fairytale Edition”.
One new change at SMS this quarter is that we are now requiring all students to wear their student Id’s during the day. We want to continue to promote and provide a safe and secure environment for all students. This step allows us to ensure we are able to identify every student and support them by grade level. SMS has issued breakaway lanyards for all students to put their ID on. If a student needs to replace their ID, there is a $5 charge for the replacement.
Again, this time of year can become a very busy time of year for families. Please continue to review PowerSchool to keep up on your students progress in his/her classes. If you have any questions please reach out to your students' teachers. Keep up the great work Eagles, this going to be an amazing second quarter.
GO EAGLES!

School Nurse/ Health room
Dear Parents,
As you know, we are seeing an increased number of illnesses at Skyview Middle School. We also currently have 4 confirmed Covid outbreaks. I want you all to be aware of that because Covid symptoms are consistent with allergies, colds, flu, and stomach viruses. Please don’t assume that your student has “just” a cold. Our number one goal is to keep all students in the building healthy and safe, including yours. We can’t do this if students continue to attend school while ill. I know that it is an inconvenience for our families but, PLEASE, if your child has ANY symptoms of illness, please keep them home. We are also trying diligently to keep our students learning in person. As you all are aware, we have had to try to mitigate illness in our building and the last thing that anyone of us wants is to return to a form of e-learning. D49 updated illness guidelines for SMS are attached for your review.
Immunizations – Exclusion date is November 30th. We do not want to have to exclude any student from learning due to missing immunizations or update exemption forms per State law. Please update your students immunization or exemption form by Nov 30th.
We have a large number of 6th graders who are missing their Tdap which is required by the State upon entry of 6th grade. We are in the process of sending out notifications to families that don’t meet State law. If you have not already done so, please either complete the exemption process or provide proof of immunization. Non-medical exemptions expire every year on July 1st regardless of when it was signed. With the passage of the new Senate bill, parents have to provide a signed form from their physician or a certificate from the immunization module online. You can find more information regarding this from our district nursing page.
Falcon Peak Health Center is a no cost clinic available to all families of D49 students including siblings up to age 21. They are located at Falcon Elementary School and provide immunizations for our families. They can be reached at 719-344-6247 to schedule an appointment.
