Stay Safer At Home Sierra Vista Students and Families!
As we continue our distance learning plan, all our SV teachers and staff want to send a huge THANKS to all our students and families for continuously logging into your Google Classrooms, checking their emails, joining in on virtual learning classes, and who are continuing to do their schoolwork and turning it in. We are very impressed and happy to see that many of our students are connecting with each and every one of their teachers!
Thank you to those families that have been taking our calls and answering our emails! Our teachers are updating throughout the day lists of students that HAVE 100% connected with them, turned in work, and are showing progress. Teachers, counselors, and administration are then working from these lists and calling students that are NOT showing progress. Our goal is to ensure that every student at SV is working from home.
You can help us in this process, by ensuring that your student has CONNECTED WITH EVERYONE OF THEIR TEACHERS! TEACHERS, COUNSELORS, ADMINISTRATION MAY BE REACHING OUT TO YOU VIA CELL PHONE/HOME PHONE IF THEY ARE HAVING TROUBLE CONNECTING WITH YOUR STUDENT. IF YOU NOTICE A BLOCKED NUMBER, THAT COULD BE ONE OF US TRYING TO CALL YOU. PLEASE CHECK YOUR VOICEMAILS!
Please know that we really miss everyone. We miss the smiling faces of our students and we miss hearing their laughter and watching them enjoying time with their friends and classmates. We miss seeing the wonderful faces of our families too!
We appreciate everyone's patience, persistence, and flexibility as we together, navigate this new journey of distance learning. We understand and acknowledge the difficulties that this places on all of our families and our students. Our SV teachers are dedicated to continuing to do their very best to provide ongoing weekly learning for our students until we all return to school. Our district is following guidance from the Los Angeles County Office of Education. They are currently recommending that schools be closed through May 4, 2020. At this point, we are looking to start classes up again on campus on May 5, 2020. Please continue to check our updates as the district receives ongoing information.
Here are a few key reminders to help support your student during distance learning:
1) Ensure your students are logging into their Google Classrooms for each of their classes at a minimum of once per day to continue to check-in on assignments.
2) Your students should be continuing to monitor their email accounts throughout the day, as teachers, counselors, and administration are sending updates and reminders.
3) Your students should be logging into virtual class lessons or doing work for each of their classes each day of the week. Please see the attached district-wide schedule to ensure they are meeting with their teachers.

4)Continue emailing teachers and counselors with questions and anytime they need support.
Thanks for all you do! We miss you!

Has your student been turning in their school work for PE and Electives? These classes matter and students should be completing the work and submitting it to their teachers.
CAREER COLLEGE READINESS CAN HAPPEN NOW!
Hey Families, here are some great questions to ask your students and to help motivate them to complete their distance learning assigments:
Math, English, Computers, Art, History????
We need all these subjects to ensure that we continue to have skilled workers in our nation. Math, technology, reading/writing skills are critical. Those doctors, nurses, grocery stores, military, teachers, police, firefighters, and so many other essential works are using these skills every day to keep us safe and helping us as a nation during COVID-19!
Just think, you may be one of these essential works one day and NOW is the time to make sure you aren't missing out on those beginning skills that you need to know to help you succeed in your classes in high school, college, and beyond!
History is happening as we speak!
You are part of history! You are living through COVID-19! Did you know that your own children and grandchildren will one day be asked to read and study about what it was like living through the COVID-19 outbreak in 2020! You are part of history! Don't look back and have to tell them that you didn't' pass this class because you didn't do your schoolwork!
Science is so important. We are grateful for doctors and scientistics helping the world during Covid-19
We need to ensure that you are skilled and prepared to meet the challenges for careers in Science, math, technology, and engineering. We need students to study these subjects in high school and college!
You may be the one to discover the cure if there is ever another outbreak again in history!
This provides you with a great opportunity to talk with them about future career interests they may have and to help them connect what they are studying with real world applications!
Sierra Vista's Campus is CLOSED and LOCKED! Please continue to communicate with your students that the campus is off limits. We kindly ask that no one comes on campus for any reason. This includes using the basketball courts and fields. If your student enjoys skateboarding, please ask them NOT to climb over/under fences and come on campus to skateboard. It is unsafe for our students to be here unattendend and we don't want to see anyone getting hurt.
Don't forget that the Week of April 6, 2020 to April 8, 2020 is Spring Break and there will be NO SCHOOl--that means no virtual or distance learning. Take a break SV Students and Families. You've earned it. Distance Learing classes will resume on Monday, April 13, 2020
