Self-Selected Work Spaces - alternative seating

Currently we are trying out some alternative seating in the classroom. Students no longer have 'required' seats in the classroom and will have more choice in their workspaces. I have also rearranged the classroom to give them more seating options. I'm currently looking for donations of comfy chairs, beanbags, and stools! Even any small bookcase if you're willing to part with it :)

Curriculum Updates

This week we did PARCC testing during Math. We had a review session on Monday.

In reading we have been working on our Flip Books. Flip books are a pop up book that you write about our historical fiction novels that we read. It includes a summary, epilogue, character traits, theme and setting. We will share these with our parents at Family Sharing Night.

We are working on writing Literary Essays. We have done a first draft on character traits of our main character from a short story we chose to read. Now we are working on developing a thesis statement based on theme. Also we are developing hooks to capture our readers attention at the beginning of our essays.

Social Studies

Next week we start learning about the events leading up to the American Revolution. Coming up we will be doing an integrated unit in both reading and writing - along with an inquiry unit all based on this time period.

STEM Activity - Build the tallest free standing tower for the witch in Rapunzel!
