PONY NEWS OCTOBER 17th
Choose the Positive Road
HELLO PONIES- A LITTLE SHARE ABOUT MRS. GREEN
My name is Alicia although I have always gone by my middle name Shuntel. I have lived in Dallas (Addison area) the majority of my life. I am a proud alumna of Ursuline Academy of Dallas and the University of Texas at Dallas. I also spent a portion of my college years at St. Mary’s University in San Antonio. I am a loyal Cowboys fan. “How bout dem boys!” and love rooting on my team every Sunday. I have always loved helping people, especially children. Prior to working for Communities In Schools (C.I.S.), I taught Pre-K for several years and also interned for the International Rescue Committee (an organization that helps refugees settle in the U.S. and find jobs and housing). I have worked for Communities In Schools for nine years, six years in the Dallas area and three years in Lewisville. I love my job because it allows me to serve children and families from all types of backgrounds on a daily basis. I stay committed to our mission of empowering students to stay in school and be successful in life. In the future, I would like to open a home for at-risk teens who have been displaced from their homes. When I am not working, you can find me reading a good book, traveling with friends, or at a play place with my four godchildren. (Sorry, I am not accepting any more applications to be a godmother!) I am excited to be a part of the Lewisville Elementary family and I cannot wait to see what wonderful things this school year brings!
Random tidbit: I was the overall winner in the first ever Teen Week on Wheel of Fortune. If you ever make it to the show, give me a call!

LISD Gives Back Campaign
We know that strong schools exist within strong communities. Schools cannot do this work alone. This campaign will allow us to highlight just a few of the many supportive organizations within our boundaries. LISD is partnering with United Way of Denton County to support these, and other, health & human services organizations.
The campaign begins Monday, October 17th and ends Friday October 28th. I will be placing the forms in your mailboxes on Monday; please, return them to my mailbox. If you turn in a form, you will get a jeans pass, and if your entire grade level/ team turns in a form, you will get Pizza Friday after the campaign is over!
You are welcome to take a minute to watch the video and learn more about organizations that LISD highlights this year.

Please see me if you have any questions. Thanks!

A MESSAGE FROM MRS. ULMAN- Early Release Schedule
The early release schedule has been adjusted due to an earlier release time. For lunch, kinder and 1st will each go through a serving line at the same time mirroring their breakfast routine. Kinder and 1st will each receive 30 minutes in the cafeteria and will be eating at the cafeteria tables. In order to complete lunch before the dismissal time and to allow students enough time to eat, the other grade levels will pair up and be given 15 minutes to go through a line to get a bag lunch (Grades 2 and 3 & Grades 4 and 5). The bag lunch will be taken back to their classrooms to eat.
We want to thank the cafeteria staff for working with us on the schedule as well as the early release menu. They were very receptive to the feedback you provided. The menu will include something like a corndog and other items more popular with students, so please encourage students to eat their lunch.
Lunch for staff will be provided!

Becoming a PLC
"Becoming a PLC is an ongoing process in which educators work collaboratively in recurring cycles of collective inquiry and action research to achieve better results for the students they serve."
"PLCs are not something that we do, but it is who we are!"
PLCs are so much more than a designated time to meet and talk about students. Professional Learning Communities are constantly thinking through the 4 critical questions in all of their decisions.
- What is it we expect our students to learn?
- How will we know when they have learned it?
- How will we respond when some students do not learn?
- How will we respond when some students already know it?
Administrators and instructional specialists will be joining your team meetings to explain the logistics of the new PLC collaborative planning times, but we want to know what you would like to see for the actual PLC structure.
Your voice counts. :-)
Please take a second during this week and share with us how you would like for the structure of the PLC to look, taking in consideration the four critical questions mentioned above. Your participation in this survey is sincerely appreciated.
Online-Staff Learning: No face-to-face meeting due to the Homecoming Parade.
the article "How to Develop Positive Classroom Management."
Please read this article and join the twitter chat during the week at #Positiveclassroom@theponyway. Share how the information in this article can help your students.
