Earthquakes PBL
Driving question: How can we, as structual engineers, construct a two story house in California for Tony Stark that will withstand seismic activity?
The Earthquakes PBL project was a project about building and earthquakes. Our job was to build a model of a house that Tony Stark would live in. The house had to be earthquake proof, and to see if it could withstand earthquakes, it had to have a shake test. The materials that you and your team(table group) could use to build the model were straws, string, popsicle sticks, toothpics, and clay.
Final product
Shake test
Our house survived the shake test!
Interveiws
Atmosphere 30 Hands Project
For the 30 hands project, we had to use two apps and put them together. The apps we used were 30 Hands and Pic Collage. We had to research questions such as "What is the Greenhouse Effect." Then we would make a Pic Collage on that question. We put a couple pictures on the slide that relate to that question, and wrote a little bit about it. We fully answered the question on a script. After every queetion was done on Pic Collage, we went onto 30 hands and recorded ourselves saying what we wrote on our script. The video shows the Pic Collage, and you listen to the the vioce recording, answering the question.
Invention Convention
The enviromental problem that my group's invention solves is pollution. It solves this problem by using a renewable source, hydroelectricity, instead of a non-renewable source such as fossil fuels.
The Invention convention is a project where groups of up to three people work together to create an invention that uses a renewable energy source. Your invention has to solve an enviromental problem. You and your team has to make a model of your invention out of trash or items at home that you do not need.
Optional Extra Credit
My favorite unit we have done this year was the Armosphere unit. I liked this unit because it was exciting and interesting to learn about. I also liked it becasue we did many labs and activities about it. My favorite activities and labs that we did were the Layers of the Atmosphere activity and the Atmosphere Demos.
The Atmosphere unit was about the atmosphere, layers of the armpsphere, Global Warming, air, and how the atmpsohere heats and cools earth. We did a big project within this unit about Global Warming and the Greenhouse Effect. We had many worksheets about it that we glued into our ISN, and we did many activities and labs about the atmosphere.
