PSSA Information For Virtual Students
Testing of Virtual Academy Students
Testing is only available in-person and on-site, and virtual students will be scheduled to take the test in their homeschool. Virtual students will bring their district issued laptop, fully charged, to school on all testing dates. During the testing times, virtual students will be proctored by a Gayman staff member. The proctor will not be their homeroom teacher. There may be instances when virtual students test in the same classroom as in-person students or may test with other virtual students from another grade level.
Note: virtual teachers will provide live instruction for students who opt out, or who are from other homeschools. The virtual school day will remain on the same schedule. Finally, all virtual students who are participating in PSSA testing at Gayman will have access to live instruction from their virtual teacher during non-testing times.
Transportation of Virtual Academy Students
All eligible students, including virtual students, have been assigned a bus route. Your child(ren) may take their bus to and from school on testing days. Please email Christine Stevens at cstevens@cbsd.org to notify us of your intent to send your child on the bus. If you prefer to drive your student to and from school for testing, please contact your child’s teacher for testing times.

Be the Captain of Your Child's Spark Team
As Peter Benson states in his book, Sparks (2008), “A parent's best role is to be the captain of your child’s spark team.”
What does this mean? Children really do want their parents to be involved in their lives and being that spark champion will increase the connection between you. Know that all children want their parents to be the leader of their spark team. This role is easier the earlier you start the conversation. You are not alone in this mission. Children have a community to draw from for their spark team. Other family members, teachers, neighbors, coaches, mentors, and bosses can all take a hand in the development of our children by sharing their own stories and being there to listen and show encouragement.
For comments or questions, please contact Ginny Barrett at vbarrett@cbsd.org or Liz Meier at emeier@cbsd.org.
GHSA Executive Board Nominations
The Executive Board is an essential part of our school community. All community members who have an interest in being part of this integral team are encouraged to join.
Please submit your nominations to the Nominating Committee (Adina Rauch and Jamie Robertie) via email GHSAINQUIRIES@GMAIL.COM.
Candidates will be announced via the website on May 5th and will be voted on at the Virtual General Membership meeting on May 19th at 7:00pm. You can find descriptions for each position on the GHSA website or contact a current board member for more details.
April Artists Bring May Magic!
The GHSA is calling all of our "budding" artists to create Art in April and then sprinkle it throughout the halls of Gayman in May.
Working together with Makers Off Main, we have created three different art kits for students to choose from. Each kit will include all the supplies needed to complete the project.
News from the Nurse
The Central Bucks Nurses are working hard to keep track of any student that has been in close contact with a person that tests positive for COVID-19. If you find out someone you know tests positive, please let me know and I can help you determine the next steps. It can be tricky to determine if you or your child is considered a close contact, so I am here to help!
If at any time you have questions regarding the COVID isolation and quarantine process, please contact me. I would be happy to discuss the situation with you and assess it based on the Department of Health guidelines.
If your child has symptoms, your first step is always to contact the Primary Care Provider for guidance regarding testing and symptom management. Please feel free to contact me directly for further guidance on your next steps after speaking with the Primary Care Provider.
My email is shedges@CBSD.org

Seasonal Allergies
If your child is prone to seasonal allergies, NOW is the time to start their allergy medication. Many of the symptoms of allergies are the same as symptoms of COVID (cough, sore throat, runny nose, congestion, headache).
Unfortunately, we cannot tell the difference so we would need to follow the Health and Safety Plan and send your child home to be tested for COVID if they developed these symptoms.
Absences
Online Absences: If a student does not attend class, the student will be marked absent until we receive the communication from parents. Note: If a student logs-in initially, but leaves the call or does not engage, the comment "Virtually Cut" will be added to the comments section.
Feel free to reach out to Christine Stevens (cstevens@cbsd.org) with any questions.
Live Streaming
Live streaming is available for any student who is absent more than 2 days because the child tested positive for COVID-19, or the child is a close contact of someone who tested positive.
Once a teacher is notified, we will make arrangements including a materials pick-up at school. Live streaming will begin on day 3 of the absence, or earlier if feasible. Note: knowing that the majority of students in the class are in-person, there will be times when the teacher is not in camera view.
