Number of crops ready and amount of harvest of a given crop will vary throughout the season. We will provide at least six items each week. If we have any crop issues, we will supplement with produce from other local farms. Some weeks will include value added items, such as Jungle Jam, Zucchini Bread, Basil Pesto, or even fruit we pick at "You-Pick" locations.

Tips & Recipes

Amaranth Passion

We last had Amaranth Passion on July 8th. This is the leafy green that has leaves that are soft-textured, and go limp quickly. As soon as you get home, stick all of the leaves, stem end down, into a glass of cold water. Amaranth does not store well for long periods and is best eaten fresh, either raw or cooked.

Zucchini

Zucchini is the gift that keeps on giving. You may think you have done everything possible with this green smooth-skinned summer squash...but you probably haven't! On a side note, did you know that zucchini, while we think of it as a vegetable, is botanically a fruit? As MyRecipes tells us, "Not only does it have and come from seeds, it grows on the flowering part of the zucchini plant. Fun fact: Zucchini blossoms are gorgeous and edible."

Cilantro

Cilantro (leaves) and coriander (seeds) come from the same plant. The leaves and seeds may be what you're most familiar with in cooking, but the entire cilantro plant is edible, even the flowers. Indian, Asian, and Latin cuisines use cilantro flowers frequently. The stems of the plant have a strong flavor and are commonly used in curries and soups. Check out the link below for some good tips on cooking and storing cilantro, along with a few recipe ideas. This is where I learned that cilantro should not be washed until you are ready to use it! Definitely an important bit of info!

Fresh Herb Tips

Fresh herbs can be crazy expensive at the grocery store, but they do add so much flavor and color to recipes. The article below will give you some great ideas on how to use up all the flavorful fresh herbs before they go bad.

Microgreens

Microgreens are tiny plants, falling somewhere between a sprout and baby green. Dense in nutrients and flavor, microgreens are usually harvested 7–21 days after germination, once the first true leaves have emerged. They provide flavor and a bit of crunch on sandwiches and wraps, are tasty in salads, and are even good as a pizza topping (sprinkled on after cooking)!

Fresh Basil Pesto

This week our crew made you homemade basil pesto. Pesto makes a great addition to pasta and sandwiches. It is something we look forward to every year here at Goodness Grows. Below is a picture of the recipe that we use to make the pesto.
