Gun Control

By: Jacob Haschalk

Imagine you are sitting in your class or teaching and then a gunman open fires on your class. Well that's what happened at Sandy Hook Elementary school. Twenty-eight people died including the gunman he killed himself. That is very sad. So maybe you will now reconsider having gun control.
As you know guns are very lethal. Did you know that we lose more than 32,000 Americans to gun violence a year? I think more thorough background checks should be done and more smart guns should be purchased. A smart gun is a gun that recognizes your hand and no one else's hand. Guns have been linked to many mass shootings in America. Some of the times those shootings are done by kids. All together guns should be used more wisely in America.
I think that our country needs gun control. Guns per American residents are 112.6 in the U.S in 2014. Canada has more control than us today at 30.8 guns per resident which is way better than our country. We should at least put in place more thorough background checks. Did you ever think schools should get like a finger print things so that unrecognized finger prints don't get in.
I think it is very important that people be taught gun saftey properly with the purchase of a gun. Proper training on gun safety before someone takes a gun home could reduce the amount of accidents related to guns. People need to learn proper handling, carrying, and use of saftey lock on the gun. They should also know how to store a firearm away from young and others. Safety courses like hunter saftey course should continue being used and be expanded.
The opposing view could be that people want guns to be available wherever and whenever they want. They think that because of the second amendment. The second amendment is "a well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.
I think that we should get gun control. Guns have been proven to be lethal in our causing many deaths. Implementing gun control would drive down Americas average number of guns per American. There would be improvements as well with gun safety training to reduce accidental deaths.
