Hello Falcon Families,
This Friday, October 22, marks the official end to the first quarter of the 2021-22 school year. The end of the quarter also means the distribution of earned quarter one grades. Student grades are reflective of cumulative performance on class homework, tests, quizzes, and class projects. While there is no grade category for effort, we do know that a student's final grade is often directly related to his/her effort and focus related to work completion. At the middle school level, we do average our quarter grades together to determine a student’s overall semester grade. With that in mind, students are encouraged to continue working hard heading into the start of the new quarter whether to maintain a high mark or to improve in a particular course. First-quarter grade cards will be shared electronically with all families on Friday, November 5.
Additionally, I want to give you a heads up about first-quarter citizenship marks. Each teacher will provide citizenship feedback to parents on the quarterly report card. First-quarter citizenship marks reflect a student’s class behavior throughout the quarter.
S: Satisfactory: Consistently meets individual classroom expectations
N: Needs Improvement: Inconsistency with meeting classroom expectations
U: Unsatisfactory: Consistently not meeting individual classroom expectations
The second quarter begins on Monday, October 25. All 7th-grade students are encouraged to review their schedules prior to Monday as quarter elective classes will change.
Thank you for your ongoing support and patience as we continue re-acclimating to regular school routines and procedures.
Respectfully,
Dr. David Mitchell
Principal, SLMS
Fall Conferences are coming...
Wear ORANGE on October 20th

Picture Make-up and Re-take Day
If students would like a re-take, they may do that at this time as well. The cost is $5 for re-takes. Student photo pre-orders and proofs (if you did not place an order) were sent home on Monday. The full retake policy is described on the picture packets. If you ordered pictures but would like a re-take, please bring your purchased pictures with you on your retake day so you can exchange the same package at no extra cost.
RED RIBBON WEEK
Parents,
This year Red Ribbon Week occurs the week of October 23rd thru 31st and the theme is Drug-Free Looks Like Me™. Like all years, students at Summit Lakes Middle School will participate in fun and educational activities and games designed to help them learn about making healthy choices; empower them to be strong and steadfast in their beliefs and convictions; and share facts about the negative effects of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs. Additionally, our students will sign a pledge during the week indicating their commitment to making healthy choices.
This year, during the entire month of October, we will also have commitment pledge cards available for parents to sign, along with pamphlets and brochures that are geared towards parents of teenagers. If you visit Summit Lakes to sign your child in or out, the pledge cards and informational packets will be located at the main office window. Each person who signs a brick will have his/her name included in a random drawing to win the book, A Better High, by Matt Bellace, Ph.D.
Not planning to stop by SLMS during the month of October? No worries; you can print off the pledge card by clicking the button below, sign it, snap a photo of it, and email the picture to: renee.lange@lsr7.net , and you too will be entered in the drawing.
Don’t forget to hang your pledge card with pride and for all to see that you’re a great role model in making and promoting healthy choices too!
