What is going on?
Math: This week we are switching gears from multiplication to division. Students will learn to read a division problems and will solve using strategies on a division mat; such as, grouping, repeated subtraction, an array and number line.
Reading: We will begin exploring the genre of poetry. We will describe how rhyme, rhythm, and repetition interact to create images in poetry.
Writing: This week we continue with ‘getting back to basics’ in writing. Students will be writing small moment stories while focusing on the writing process. We will review all steps: Brainstorming, Drafting, Editing and Revising.
Social Studies: Students will learn the difference of natural and manmade resources. We will talk about the negative and positive affect humans have on the natural environment. Students will also learn about the differences in saltwater and freshwater through a fun experiment and studying the different types of bodies of water.
Sight Words: We are learning the following words this week: begin, close, door, girl, leave, open, slow, upon
Please continue to work with your child to read, write, and spell these words with consistency.
Next week we are needing a few donations: 20 individual packs of small M and M's and a box of microwave popcorn. Please let me know if you can donate. Thank you for considering!

Science Fair-
The Science Fair is coming soon! All projects are due at school on January 22.

We still need Science Fair Judges on Monday, January 25 from 8 a.m. to 12noon. No science background needed! Your job will be to talk with students about their science fair project, and fill out simple judging rubrics. There will be a brief training from 8:00-8:15 that day.
