Pathways for Learning

ISOK Offers 1 learning pathway for middle school students:

Who: all students

What: 4 core classes and 1 elective (see below)

When: semester long schedules

Why:

  • alternative education
  • smaller class sizes
  • easier transition to high school alternative education program
  • teachers are familiar with working with students who have struggled in school
  • not unusual for students to be older than most students in that grade

Who: potentially all students could use it - most often math and english

What: learning platform site

Why: Engaging videos with built in adjustments to fit each student's learning level.

Who: potentially used for all students

What: learning platform site

When: within course

Why: Engaging content that is adjusted automatically to meet students where their learning level is and build from there.


How to Login:

Teacher provides class code.

Student creates an account at the site.

Site has boxes for first name and last name.

Who: potentially all students could use it if teacher utilizes it

What: learning platform

When: within course

Where: newsela.com

Why: The platform adjusts the article to fit each student's individual reading level. Gives the opportunity to understand the content more easily rather than having one article for all students regardless of reading level.


How to Login:

Teacher provides a link to join class section.

Student creates login credentials, and are encouraged to do so in this format:

Password: first name, last 3 digits of student ID number

OKCareerGuide

Who: 8th grade students

What: Both learning platform site AND assessment platform site

When: 8th grade Career Exploration class

Where: www.okcareerguide.org

Why: Provides quality information for students to help prepare for post secondary plans.

School uses it because it fits our students well and we use it for ICAP state requirement to graduate.


How to Login:

Students create their own accounts.

Who: all middle school students

What: Assessment of student growth (not proctored)

When: Administered 3 times per year: August, January, May

Why: Stride requires this growth assessment tool to measure student growth over time

What: free tutoring for more than 300 subjects

When: Students can use as needed, and have access 24/7

Why: optional personalized instructional support.

What Counts for Attendance?

Students need to consistently do these 2 things:


1. Attend Class Connect sessions, AND

2. Complete course work and assignments.


i.e. OLS/ OMHS course work

i.e. assigned class programs such as ExactPath, Freckle, MindPlay, etc.




You can also receive attendance credit for:

- completing school assessments

- instructional meetings with teachers

- attending orientations

- attending school outings, whether in person or virtual
