BSC Weekly Newsletter
Week of September 4th
Greetings from the BSC President
A very warm welcome to all of our new and returning Balboa Families. As President of the Balboa Spirit Club, I have the privilege of working with so many dedicated volunteers and parents who are focused on supporting our amazing teachers and making our scholars' time at Balboa even more fulfilling and meaningful. Our year is already off to an amazing start and we have so much more planned. Check out the photos from our Carnival and be sure to visit our Facebook and Instagram pages for all of the latest updates, activities, and ways to get involved. Your support of our COMPASS fund and volunteer efforts helps ensure our scholars receive a diverse and well rounded enrichment program. It is always so rewarding to see our scholars benefiting, learning, and having fun from all of the programming and events your BSC supports! I hope to see you around campus or at our next event soon.
Gratefully,
Steven Otterman
Welcome back scholars and Balboa families!
It was great seeing all of our scholars and families at the Welcome Back Carnival. Our thanks to Top Stars Facepainting, The CART L.A., SCGA Junior, Cash2.0, and Dance Party Industries (a Balboa family!) and STARs for all of their support. A very special THANK YOU to Alenoosh Eivazian for chairing this event and to all of the volunteers and teachers that helped make it so much fun. Be sure to check out the photo album and upload your own pictures.
Have you made your tax-deductible donation to the COMPASS Fund yet? If so, THANK YOU! If not, do not worry! You've got time! Did you know the COMPASS Fund pays for all the wonderful enrichment programs that make Balboa an exceptional school? Our programs include science with Mrs. Croft, technology with Mr. Richmond, music with Ms. Reynolds, along with Mystery Science, PE with the YMCA, STEMscope, carpool support, AND MUCH MORE!

Balboa's Enrichment Programs
To learn more about Balboa's Enrichment programs, please visit our new LAUSD website: https://balboamagnet.lausd.org/:
Balboa is fortunate to have many, varied enrichment activities for our students. These activities support and enhance our curriculum. Students in all grade levels have the opportunity to participate in developmentally appropriate technology projects, videoconferencing experiences, and a structured physical education program. They are also involved in music education programs, both vocal and instrumental, the LAUSD Arts Prototype Program, and visits to our library and gardens. We continue to watch our students thrive with the additional enrichment programs and activities Balboa has to offer.
The BSC puts on several events throughout the year and the success of each one is based on our amazing volunteers! Whether you have an hour of time to spend on-site or could prepare items at home, the BSC needs your help. Let us know what your capacity is and how you could help, and we will be in touch by filling out this form. Thank you!
