This Week in First Grade

Reading

This week in reading, we will be learning about paraphrasing what we read in a text. Paraphrasing helps students make connections with their prior knowledge, demonstrate comprehension, and retell what they have read. Additionally, paraphrasing helps student realize that if they are having difficulty paraphrasing, that they may need to go back and read the text again. Students will apply what they learned last week about determining importance to help them with paraphrasing.

You can help your student strengthen their paraphrasing skills by asking them to tell you about a text after reading in their own words.
