Queanbeyan Girl Guides
Term one 2016
Welcome to the new look - Queanbeyan Girl Guides newsletter.
We are still improving so let us know how we can improve for the future, or maybe information you would like to see in coming editions.
Girl Guide Thinking Day – We think it was amazing.
It was a combined effort with all units participating in the annual Thinking Day on 22 February 2016. The girls wrote postcards to Sangam (a Girl Guide centre in India), made paper planes to some special photos in a frame. All activities were based on the theme CONNECT which is about connecting with ourselves as guides, our friends, our community and the world. Great news is that units will be continuing this theme and including this in their regular weekly activities.
What the units have been doing
Monday – (Rainbow Junior Guides) – the girls have enjoyed teambuilding activities, water games and making campfire cakes.
Tuesday – (Guides)- have elected new Patrol Leaders and Seconders, friendship activities and international games with a vie to the coming Olympics.
Wednesday – (Brownie Junior Guides) – have learned about each other, have made emergency BP kits and explored “good turns”.
Thursday – (Mirabee Ranger Senior Guides) – have completed elections, explored aspects of World Guiding, and have been preparing and making costumes and a raft for the State Regatta. Ashleigh has completed her Queen’s Guide. Several are really looking forward to taking part in their first Regatta at Lake Macquarie next week (fingers crossed we can see some pictures soon).
Newbies welcome
Support group contribution DUE NOW
Queanbeyan Girl Guides does a lot but we can do even more when everyone pays their support contribution. This contribution goes towards making sure your girls have every opportunity to enjoy the world of guides.
By paying for equipment, training, and improvements to our beloved hall this contribution goes along way. Without this contribution we would struggle to keep Queanbeyan district viable and offer the activities and experiences we currently have.
You can pay $35 per term or $140 per year by:
- Putting cash or a cheque (payable to Queanbeyan District Support Group) in an envelope (with your daughter’s name and unit) in the locked box on the back of the Guide hall door
- Making an electronic funds transfer to BSB - 062-593, Account number:10351570, Queanbeyan District Support Group GGA NSW
Note: To avoid payments being lost include your daughters first and last name as a reference when paying.
We thank you for your prompt payment.

Fundraising update
A little bit of effort went along way - thank you!
The parent support group has been very busy of late and working together has really paid off. Carols in the Park (held in November 2015) yielded over $400 and the more recent LiquidFest (February 2016) produced over $330 for Girl Guide activities. The Christmas disco held late last year was also well received and we are looking at having another event again in the future (hint PJ’s could be the dress code). None of these activities could have happened without the assistance of the parent support group and the countless additional parents and leaders who have spared time to get guides out in the community. Together we do great things!
We need your help to make Mothers Day amazing
Please bring donated items to the guide hall by 8 April 2016 as tickets for the raffle will be made available over the first two weeks of term two.
Stuck for an idea of what to bring? Some ideas could include something for the kitchen (oven mitt, herbs, cake tray, coasters, glasses), the garden (seeds, gloves, trowel, apron) or something to pamper mum (soaps, bath salts, handcream).
The raffle will be drawn at the George Forbes house concert and is just in time to make one mother very happy!
The biscuits are coming nom nom nom
