Queanbeyan Girl Guides

Term one 2016

Welcome to the new look - Queanbeyan Girl Guides newsletter.

A number of parents had let us know they would like to see an improvement in the way Girl Guides Queanbeyan news is communicated. We took this feedback on board and have been making real changes to communicate in a more timely, relevant and exciting manner about our girls guiding experience. The new look girl guides newsletter is part of this improvement as is the new Facebook page which can be found at www.facebook.com/queanbeyangirlguides please join to keep updated on guiding news and adventures happening in between newsletter publications.

We are still improving so let us know how we can improve for the future, or maybe information you would like to see in coming editions.

Support group contribution DUE NOW

Queanbeyan Girl Guides does a lot but we can do even more when everyone pays their support contribution. This contribution goes towards making sure your girls have every opportunity to enjoy the world of guides.

By paying for equipment, training, and improvements to our beloved hall this contribution goes along way. Without this contribution we would struggle to keep Queanbeyan district viable and offer the activities and experiences we currently have.

You can pay $35 per term or $140 per year by:

  1. Putting cash or a cheque (payable to Queanbeyan District Support Group) in an envelope (with your daughter’s name and unit) in the locked box on the back of the Guide hall door
  1. Making an electronic funds transfer to BSB - 062-593, Account number:10351570, Queanbeyan District Support Group GGA NSW

Note: To avoid payments being lost include your daughters first and last name as a reference when paying.

We thank you for your prompt payment.

Easter — George Forbes House

Saturday, March 26th, 2-3pm

George Forbes House Queanbeyan, Erin Street.

Easter is fast approaching and we will again be doing our usual service by supplying an afternoon tea and doing a concert for all the residents at Forbes House for Easter. If any girls would like to perform at the concert please let your daughter’s leader know. This is a good service for the girls to participate in. We welcome parents and friends who could spare an hour or so to come and join in this service. Bring a nice plate of food to share and dress in full uniform.

Keep your guide profile updated

Are you missing out on information well maybe your Girl Guide profile is not updated. On the ACT NSW Girl Guide website you can check you information is all up to date such as email addresses or add additional email addresses or contact details. Just access the member section to the top right hand corner in blue and access using your guide member number and password. Don't worry if you have misplaced this information it can also be reset.

Fundraising update

A little bit of effort went along way - thank you!

The parent support group has been very busy of late and working together has really paid off. Carols in the Park (held in November 2015) yielded over $400 and the more recent LiquidFest (February 2016) produced over $330 for Girl Guide activities. The Christmas disco held late last year was also well received and we are looking at having another event again in the future (hint PJ’s could be the dress code). None of these activities could have happened without the assistance of the parent support group and the countless additional parents and leaders who have spared time to get guides out in the community. Together we do great things!

We need your help to make Mothers Day amazing

Mothers’ Day is just around the corner and we all know how much we love Mum. This year the parents support group are organising a raffle to raise money and show mum just how much we care. But we need your help and are asking for donations for the raffle prizes.

Please bring donated items to the guide hall by 8 April 2016 as tickets for the raffle will be made available over the first two weeks of term two.

Stuck for an idea of what to bring? Some ideas could include something for the kitchen (oven mitt, herbs, cake tray, coasters, glasses), the garden (seeds, gloves, trowel, apron) or something to pamper mum (soaps, bath salts, handcream).

The raffle will be drawn at the George Forbes house concert and is just in time to make one mother very happy!

The biscuits are coming nom nom nom

The wait is almost over and the Girl Guide biscuits should arrive early next term. There has been some changes in the look and design this year so before your mouth tastes them let your eyes check out the range here
