Read eBooks For Free!
There are many places you can go to read books online. One of the greatest is OverDrive. Tuscaloosa City Schools has a subscription and the Tuscaloosa Public Library has a subscription as well.
OverDrive
Check out ebooks, audiobooks, and videos. You can read/listen/watch on desktops, smartphones, tablets, and ereaders. You will need a login in order to be able to use this service. For TCS OverDrive, check with your librarian for login information. For TPL OverDrive you will need a library card and PIN.

Open eBooks
Ebooks for all ages of students. "Open eBooks is a partnership between Digital Public Library of America, The New York Public Library, and First Book. Any adult who works in a Title I (or Title I eligible) school, or a program or library that serves at least 70% of children from in-need families can sign up with First Book atfirstbook.org/openebooks. Once signed up, educators can request access codes for Open eBooks at fbmarketplace.org/openebooks."
Download the free app (Apple or Android) first. Then sign up at First Book. Go to the marketplace. Select the level you want (elementary, middle, high) and access codes will be emailed to you. Well worth the steps you have to take.
Oxford Owl Books
This collection is from the UK and is designed for elementary age students. Some middle school students would benefit as well from this collection. There are 350 free ebooks available. Click here to go to Oxford Owl Books.
Britannica E-Stax
Choose from 438 nonfiction titles. All reading ranges can find something here. This resource is courtesy of the Alabama Virtual Library (AVL). Click here to go the the AVL. Once there, click on EBook tab. However, I prefer to click on the View All Resources tab and then select Britannica e-books. I like the way it looks better.
Just Books Read Aloud
Videos of popular books. These videos are pulled from YouTube and are ad free and without all those horrible comments and suggestions. Some are better than others but this is a great place to look if your library doesn't have a particular title. Click here to go JustBooksReadAloud.
