News from Our School Counselor
Parents,
I would like to thank everyone who participated in The Great Kindness challenge and Kindness Week! It was so amazing to see all of the kind deeds and thoughtful hearts! Spreading joy and kindness, all year round, is such an important thing in today’s world. And as always, we adults need to remember to model these things for young ones on a daily basis! Every student received a kindness coin this week to help promote being kind and spreading kindness!
Kindness is free to give, But priceless to receive.
Spread seeds of kindness wherever you go. Care and thank will surely grow!
National School Counseling Week Feb. 3-7
School Counselors: Helping Build Better Humans
National School Counseling Week focuses public attention on the unique contribution of school counselors within U.S. school systems. National School Counseling Week, sponsored by ASCA, highlights the tremendous impact school counselors can have in helping students achieve school success and plan for a career. National School Counseling Week is always celebrated the first full week in February.
What do School Counselors do?
Counselors allow K-12 students to better understand their own strengths; work with parents to help them overcome obstacles in raising their children; and encourage educators to have their students set healthy, positive goals.

PTO News
The Douglas MacArthur Elementary School PTO is excited to host our first annual Playground Fundraiser Gala on February 22, 2020 at the Cedar Lake Lighthouse Restaurant. This event is intended to raise much-needed funds for a new playground purchase and installation at Douglas MacArthur Elementary School in Cedar Lake, Indiana, which costs upward of $60,000 per section installed. Sections of the existing playground at the school are currently in deteriorating condition and in dire need of replacement. We believe that this fundraiser will put us one step closer towards creating a new safe place for the children to play, exercise and nurture the crucial physical and social development skills fostered by outdoor play.
We cordially invite you to consider joining our endeavor by purchasing tickets for this exciting event. This year’s gala is themed “The Roaring Twenties in 2020” and will feature hors d’oeuvres, dinner, dancing, dessert, a silent auction, cash bar and door prizes. Tickets are $100 per person and can be purchased online at www.macpto.com. This fun night out is just one week after Valentine’s Day – so consider saving your date night out to join us !
