What's on the Desk of Dr. Mrozik?
I have the Common Core Standards and Schoowide binders on my desk. I am working on the development of resources that will allow grades 1 - 6 to use during DEB. All resources will align to the Common Core Standards. For example, I am building folders in Google and placing Google Documents inside each folder that really do no more than providing teachers with the reading resources found in Appendix B and some comprehension questions and performance tasks, also coming from Appendix B. I hope to have these done for all grades by the start of the 2016-2017 school year. I am already off to a great start. I believe this will be valuable to our teachers and will have a significant impact on our students as the reading material meets the complexity levels that are suggested within the Common Core State Standards while embedding rich performance tasks that students will complete.
I am also focusing on ways to improve schoolwide behaviors and finding ways to best meet the social demands of our students. I am currently reviewing a few public schools that seem to excel in this area. If possible, I will be conducting a site visit to learn more about what they do and how they do what they do. My hope is to bring information back to staff at the start of 2016-2017, which will ultimately lead to improved school-wide behavior. I am super confident that a committed and united staff can overcome our current challenges and that myself and a few of our leaders in the school can help move us forward in this very important area.
