Richmond Elementary May Update
Making a difference today to create a better tomorrow.
I Believe in Being a Top 20
What is being a Top 20? Isn't it recognizing and nurturing the social emotional well-being of those around us? Testing season is finishing. This video clarifies the many efforts we take to prepare our children for the test. Thinking like a Top 20, we realize we need to think about what we are really modeling, about what we are really teaching. We must first show our children how to start, how to work through difficulties, how to discover the source of food, how to measure the journey within. Model perseverance, determination, persistence, and empathy. Press pause. What struck me in this video is the thought "Remember that in school, we get the lesson first and the test after. In life, we get the test first and the lesson after." How very true! We model character and values, compassion and emotional intelligence as a Top 20. Jay Shetty states "Life is the most difficult exam because most people are looking at someone else's desk." Your challenge this month: determine where you are looking. Do we need to adjust our focus as we do what is best for our children?
Richmond Recognition
To the students and families of Richmond Elementary, thank you for your combined efforts for our Color Run! Together, we have collected over $12000!! The funds will be used for technology in our classrooms, which will be integral as we move forward with Math Expressions and Wonders, the new reading curriculum next year. Remember our Color Run is this Saturday at 9:00! Thank you for making a difference today to create a better tomorrow!
From the Office...
- With the arrival of May and warm weather, please use your family's discretion in sending your child(ren) to school wearing shorts. Thank you!
- Please remember to save Box Tops for Education, Richmond Food Pride receipts, and Teal's receipts. Richmond Elementary School received a check for $1000 from Richmond Food Pride!! Your efforts are certainly appreciated!!
Also, a reminder to call or email when students will be tardy or absent, then to sign them in or out when picking up early or dropping off late.
District policy states that when your child is out of school for three days due to illness, a doctor's note is required to return. We want to be certain your child is in good health to return to school.

Title One
Dear Parents,
Spring is here! Thank you for your support and effort this past school year. It is always so fun to see the progress children make throughout the school year. Our last day of Title services will be May 17th. We will be assessing your child using FAST assessments in reading and math May 1-18. Our fifth grade students will be taking the NWEA/MAP assessment to align with the Middle School assessments. The results from these assessments are used to determine services for Fall 2018 based upon need. Please feel free to contact me with questions, concerns, or summer reading ideas. Twenty minutes a day will help your child maintain reading skills over the summer. It has been a pleasure working with you!
