Principal's Message

Happy Friday Bobcat Families!

Thank you for your flexibility as we navigated a four-day instead of five-day week due to the inclement weather threat. We have had a ton of fun this week celebrating St. Patrick's Day as well as fundraising for March of Dimes!

Remember, next Friday, March 26th is an early release day for all students due to mandatory afternoon professional development for teachers. Elementary students will be released at 10:30am. Please ensure your students and their teachers know how your student is getting home if it is outside of their normal mode of transportation.

On Wednesday, March 24th, Richland One 3rd grade students will participate in Together We Read in collaboration with the City of Columbia. Various City of Columbia officials will virtually join 3rd grade classes to read the book "Different: A Story About Loving Your Neighbor" by Chris Singleton. We are excited to provide the audience for this opportunity. Additionally, parents in grades 2-5, please be on the lookout for information from your students' homeroom teachers regarding Spring state practice testing that will take place next week.

Lastly, remember that Monday, March 29th is Spring Picture Day! We look forward to welcoming Strawbridge into the building on this day. Families of virtual school and e-learning students will be provided a time to come in and have photos taken. More information will be sent soon!

Have a wonderful weekend and stay safe!

Dance and Theatre Audition Submissions

Gifted & Talented Artistic Dance and Theatre Program Auditions

RICHLAND ONE is one of the few districts in our state that offers Gifted & Talented Artistic Dance and Theatre programs in all of our middle and high schools.

The purpose of the dance and theatre education process in Richland School District One is to provide students with a rigorous and balanced approach to learning through critical thinking and creative problem solving. This process involves a discipline based approach with experiences in the production, appreciation, and knowledge of dance and theatre. Experience is gained through an understanding of the developments in history and culture, the development of judgements about dance and theatre, and the practical applications of dance and theatre practices.

The process for audition for the different this year. Normally, Hand dance and theater teachers come here to audition the 5th graders; however, they are now asking the students to record themselves and submit the recordings electronically. Please see the attached documents for audition requirements.

SCHOOL NEWS

A Bobcat Spotlight...Women's History Month

Big picture

Women’s History Month had its origins as a national celebration in 1981 when Congress authorized and requested the President to proclaim the week beginning March 7, 1982 as “Women’s History Week.” National Women’s History Month was later established in 1987 after Congress designated March as Women's History Month, establishing the proclamation as a way to commemorate and encourage the study, observance and celebration of the role women have in American history.

Influential Women of the 20th and 21st Centuries

Women have always played an active role in history. In the first March issue of the Blaze we began exploring some of the historical pioneers and contemporary newsmakers that continue to impact the world. This week we continue to recognize and salute a few of the most influential women of the 20th and 21st Centuries.

Hello AC Moore Families!

Thank you to everyone who is participating in the Kinsa FLUency Program. I hope you are enjoying those new thermometers! There will be no more shipments this school year; however, I will be sure to send out information once the program is re-launched in the Fall.

I am still missing many student health forms. This is so important, so please be sure to submit yours if you have not already done so.

I will begin conducting vision screenings on Monday, March 22nd. All school-wide Covid protocols will be observed during screening (masks, appropriate social distancing, etc.). I will send a written referral home with your child if he/she does not pass the screening. If your child has glasses, please be sure to send them to school each day next week; students who have prescribed glasses must wear them during screening. All students will be screened according to DHEC recommendations; if you do not want your child to participate, you may send me an email to decline the screening (jennifer.robinson2@richlandone.org).

Thank you and have a great weekend!

DISTRICT NEWS

Parents, students and staff can now get up-to-date information about COVID-19 cases in the district through Richland One’s new online tracking dashboard.

A link to the dashboard, which will be updated daily, is posted on the Restart Strong page on the district’s website www.richlandone.org/restartstrong. In addition to listing the number of positive and quarantined COVID-19 cases among Richland One students and staff, the dashboard includes the number of cases at each district school and administrative building. It also shows daily, weekly and year-to-date summaries of the number of positive COVID-19 cases.

“Richland One’s goal in creating the COVID-19 dashboard is to provide the most accurate and current information possible to our community,” said Richland One Superintendent Dr. Craig Witherspoon. “Having the same data allows us all to work together to better protect our students and staff.”

COVID-19 data is compiled daily by the district’s Nursing Services office and Accountability, Assessment, Research and Evaluation department. The information shown on Richland One’s dashboard may differ from the reports from the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC), which are updated on Tuesdays and Fridays.

Media inquiries should be directed to the Richland One Office of Communications.
