Active Shooter Talking Points for Students
PLEASE review these points with your students BEFORE Wednesday:
Message for teachers to give to students RE: Community Wide Emergency Drill
**On Wednesday afternoon, November 20th , Memorial Regional Health will conduct a community-wide emergency drill.
**Our school district will participate in the drill.
**It is just a drill.
**The drill is being conducted by Memorial Regional Hospital in cooperation with Moffat County Sherriff’s department, Craig Police Department, and Craig Fire Department.
**The drill will be held at the old hospital building on Russell Street.
**The goals of conducting drills are to improve our ability to protect students, save lives, and reduce injuries.
**Drills are important because they allow us to evaluate our emergency response skills and our plans to keep you safe.
Community Drill
BE SURE TO REVIEW THE MESSAGE with your students by Wednesday!
Shelter in Place vs Lock Down
Shelter in Place = look outside your door, lock it, and continue teaching. Keep alert - all senses. If a fire alarm happens - take a moment to see what you hear, smell, feel before making a move. If we are in Shelter in Place or Lock Down - take a moment to assess - do not automatically go out. If you do pull a student into your room, call their teachers room and let them know you have their student. If you do not have any students, please report to the office.
Lock Down = Lock Doors, pull blinds, get students into a safe area away from door/windows. Listen......wait for announcements either over intercom or phone system. DO NOT EVER OPEN YOU DOOR if there is a knock. Those that can release the drill will have a key. If you have a chance and feel it is the right move in the time, leave the building and go to the 3 extract areas:
1. Out back, up the trail to Sunset Meadows car parking area
2. Front of building - move to behind the churches
3. Out Side door- Kindergarten playground - towards Taco Bell - behind the church
Be sure you have an updated class roster with phone numbers in case you need to leave quickly.
Let me know if you have any questions - I'll be available Wednesday morning or through email!
