McClure Message Week 6
September 26 - 30
It is looking like we'll have great weather for the McClure Parent Council Car and Bike Wash this Sunday 9am to noon! Students signed up for volunteer slots this week in 10th period classes, but they are welcome to join us even if they forgot to sign up. Parent Council funds support every part of our building, from classrooms to athletics and clubs, to our music programs...We hope to see you Sunday morning!
Next week, we'll continue our lessons on collaboration during our homebase day on Tuesday, and we have an early dismissal day on Wednesday. Students are released at 11:52am on an early release day. Last, we'll end the week with Picture Day for all grades on Friday, September 30th.
Please also note: Next week, Monday, Sept 26 is the last day for any changes to Fun Lunch orders for the year.
McClure Student/Parent Handbook
It can be hard to find time to dive into the whole document, so for the first part of the year, I'll summarize small sections of our handbook.
TARDY TO SCHOOL
Any student reporting to school after 8:15 a.m. should report to the Main Office. Parent phone calls to validate a late arrival will be accepted until 12 Noon. All other students will receive an unexcused tardy.
Doctor, dentist or orthodontist appointments are examples of excused tardies.
Sleeping in, alarm clock malfunctions, etc., are unexcused tardies.
Please note that after a student's third unexcused tardy within a quarter, that student will receive a referral, be issued an after-school detention, and parents will be notified. Subsequent tardies will result in additional consequences.
TARDY TO CLASS
Any student reporting to class after the bell needs to have a written pass from a teacher to excuse the tardy. If a student does not have a pass, an unexcused tardy will be recorded by the teacher. Any student who accumulates three unexcused tardies within a grading period will receive a discipline referral and a detention.

Parent Presentation Change
Our upcoming parent presentation has changed! Please mark your calendars for October 11 at 7pm in the McClure gym.
Carl Hooker is a nationally recognized technology expert, keynote speaker, author, district administrator, teacher, and podcast host. His expertise in the crossroads of technology and education brought him to District 101 several years ago as he led a group of teacher leaders as they pioneered tech integration in classrooms.
Mr. Hooker's presentation on October 11 is titled "Parenting in the Digital Age: An interactive discussion around digital wellness, balance, screen time, social media, and more." The topic of our digital lives and how to navigate this as parents is an important one in this day and age. Having seen Carl present several times, I hope you'll join us for this presentation that is sure to be both informative and humorous.
The presentation is open to parents of students in 4th - 8th grade.

Counseling Corner
It’s Friday but let’s talk about Sunday. Sunday is our chance to catch up, recover from the weekend, and get prepped for the week ahead. But for many of us, especially kids, a feeling of intense anxiety and dread sets in when Sunday afternoon rolls around. That feeling is what we affectionately call the “Sunday Scaries.” The upcoming week ahead can start those ruminating negative thoughts about anything or everything, including school, tests, friends, where to sit at lunch, what to wear, sports, sleep, grades, chores….you get the point. So how can we help our kids combat the Sunday Scaries and feel ready for the week ahead? Read here to learn about the Sigh, See, Start approach and try it with your kid!
