Holland Elementary School Message
March 13, 2020
Hello HES Families,
This is an incredibly challenging and strange time. We all have our concerns that are specific to our unique personal and professional situations. Thus, it's so important for me to communicate that your children had a very positive week of school. They were engaged and learning, and they were having fun. Despite all that was going on outside of the school, HES was and will remain a safe place for the children. The staff and I consider it a privilege and responsibility to take care of the children, and your support during challenging weeks makes a positive difference.
As Holland Elementary School works with the school district to gauge the impact of the coronavirus, the staff and I will be taking steps to ensure that learning will continue. While a student's presence in the classroom cannot easily be replaced, we will be making accommodations to allow for meaningful work to continue. On Friday, the teachers and I will work together on the Council Rock Distance Learning plan to provide a successful implementation should that need arise.
Some of the work students would need involves access to resources. Therefore, in the coming days your son/daughter might bring home some additional tools. Resources like an independent reading book, specific skill sheets, packets, and more, might strengthen a teacher’s Distance Learning plan. The materials sent home will vary depending upon the age and grade of your child. Again, some staff members will send home materials and others will utilize technology resources or a combination of both.
Our goal is to be prepared while maintaining the focus on our educational values and to keep a level head throughout this fluid situation. While the learning may look different, our teachers are ready to provide support and instruction.
We believe that preparation is an important component to success. For this reason, I’m informing HES community that we have taken these steps not in anticipation of a closure, but instead to be confident that we are ready and responsive if that need arises.
Please know that the purpose of this email is to be informative in nature and to provide you with some details of our plan. If our school routine is disrupted, appropriate communication will be disseminated to the community via the district or by me directly to explain the Distance Learning plan in greater detail.
This information continues to evolve. As I receive updated information from the school district, I promise to keep everyone informed and updated. As always, thank you for your ongoing trust and support.

This Week in Pictures
Congrats to the Hawkettes and We the Peoplez for representing HES so well at the Bucks County STEM Design Challenge!
We held our Hawk Assembly on Tuesday as we had a chance to recognize students and staff.
Our "We Salute You" Awards are given monthly to one student in each grade level who the teachers feel is dedicated to being the best person that he or she can be. This student receives a certificate at our monthly assembly as well as a very special Holland t-shirt.
Congratulations to this month's recipients of our "We Salute You" awards:
- Kindergarten - Henley Oczkowski
- First Grade - Hannah Waterman
- Second Grade - Filip Sowa
- Third Grade - Gabby Barrish
- Fourth Grade - Owen Birch
- Fifth Grade - John Segata
- Sixth Grade - Joe DePaolo
We also had a chance to recognize Mrs. Ann Votta, our beloved crossing guard. Ann has been at her post for nearly twenty years, as she greets everyone with a smile and a wave each day no matter the weather. Ann received our Honorary Hawk certificate and, of course, and Holland t-shirt.
We also just got another 10 Hawkeye's in a row on our Hawk of Fame board! Congratulations to the following students who are our most recent Hawk of Fame winners:
- Yena Kim
- Joe Scancella

These students have won a surprise activity next week with Mrs. Wetherill and me. Way to go!
