PTSA Night at the Races
Our PTSA is hard at work raising money for many items that our students and school need. We are planning a fun and exciting family engagement night that will help with these expenses. A Night at the Races will be held at Washington Middle School on Friday, November 3rd from 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.
Events will include a Kentucky Derby Cake Walk, Preakness Stakes Race, Horseracing Trivia, the H-O-R-S-E basketball challenge, face painting, carnival games, contests, photos with a live horse, and Kona Ice. There will be a special appearance by the Keep Evansville Beautiful mascots, Evie Sue and Vandy Lee.
A lot of good food will be served including hot dogs, hamburgers, pizza, and pork sliders. If you are a PTSA member, you may have your child pick up a form in the office to get meals at a reduced price. You must have this form turned in by October 25th. You may purchase a PTSA membership before that date to take advantage of the special pricing.
Another exciting part of this event is our Derby Hat Contest. Entry forms are available in the front office. Check out Pinterest, Google, or other sites to get ideas for creating an original Derby hat. Hats need to be turned in at the office by November 1st. Votes will be cast for the favorite hat. There will be prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place.
Last, but not least…we have a coin challenge going on. Each grade level has a money jar located in the library. If one of these jars is filled with coins or dollar bills before the event night – our Principal, Mrs. Branson, will kiss a horse!! You definitely don’t want to miss that, so bring in your change!!
Please see the attachment for more details and pricing information. We hope to see you on what will be a night of fun, food, games, and prizes! Thank you for supporting our students and the Washington Middle School PTSA!!

If your child needs additional support with any subject, they can stay after for tutoring. In order to schedule after school tutoring, students can sign up with Mr. Walls in Room 26A or parents can email Mr. Walls at dominic.walls@evsck12.com.
We are trying to keep the classes small, so students can get the help they need. If students do not sign up for the sessions or schedule an assessment with their teacher, they will not be able to stay. Please let us know if you have questions or concerns regarding help for your child.
PBIS Points and Base Exchange
Again this year, students will be receiving points for doing the right things. Students can use the points to purchase items like school supplies, spirit wear, ear buds, tablets, bikes, personal hygiene items and other gifts in the PBIS Base Exchange store located in the Media Center. The Base Exchange will be open starting Monday, August 21st in the Media Center during recess periods. If you are interested in donating new or gently used items for our Base Exchange, please bring those items to the main office. We will be happy to write up a receipt for tax deductions for any items donated. Thank you in advance for helping keep this open for our students!
