Dear whānau,
We've really enjoyed a 'normal' week this week with no snow days getting in the way of our teaching and learning. We have spent lots of time outside with two days of Sports Activator with Sarah and a day of cricket with Jack.
We had a short and muddly week last week which had Mrs Knowler pulling out her hair. You wouldn't have picked it though, the Room Kererū kids blew us away with their super thoughtful and well prepared Monday prayers and their song about 'putting their trust in the Lord' which was choreographed to a standard only comparible with episodes of 'Glee'. Their class Mass today was also very impressive. Ka pai Room Kererū! Mrs Knowler and Jackie must be so proud of you all.
From our shared school vision: We all work together towards achieving our shared vision. Whanaungatanga is seen through our strong relationships with home, school, parish, community, support services and communication goes both ways. We have a shared responsibility; a partnership between home and school for the good of the learner.
Our two teacher only days were both highly successful and exhausting, but the good kind of exhausting. It was incredibly encouraging to see how far we have come as a staff since we first started our 'Schools That Deliver' journey, literally a couple of days before the first lockdown in 2020, and how aligned we are in our vision for our school. Our shared school vision is something you will quite often see in the newsletter, on notices going home, on facebook posts, in our actions and the actions of our kids ... you shouldn't be able to escape it if we're doing a good job of living it and it's something we are endeavouring to see in every nook and cranny of our school community.
Please remember, if you have something you'd like us to celebrate in the newsletter, send me through a picture and a wee blurb by Thursday 9am each week and I'll make sure it gets in - mallory.hood@stmarys.school.nz
Have a great weekend with your families.
God bless,
Mallory

Te Wiki o te Reo Māori 2022
Mā te kimi ka kite, Mā te kite ka mōhio, Mā te mōhio ka mārama
Seek and discover. Discover and know. Know and become enlightened.
Every week we celebrate Māori language but this Te Wiki o te Reo Māori is a special one, as it marks 50 years since the Māori Language Petition was presented to Parliament. This petition kickstarted the Māori language movement, asking for active recognition of te reo Māori in Aotearoa New Zealand, and for the language to be taught in schools. To mark the occasion this week, all the classes around our kura have been getting active and creative ... (see below).

Greta Garbo and Monroe, Dietrich and DiMaggio, Marlon Brando, Jimmy Dean ... On the cover of a magazine!
And here you were thinking she was away working for the Ministry of Education! I couldn't make Annie Nelson work in those iconic lyrics above without ruining it sadly but here she is, in the middle of a magazine - how many of us can say that? Make sure you get your copy of Shepherdess or alternatively call into school for a read.
We're also running a fundraiser - $50 for Annie to sign your exclusive copy ... just kidding, I think she'd do that for nothing!
Board Results ...
From our shared school vision: We have a shared responsibility; a partnership between home and school for the good of the learner.
In this spirit (and if you missed it on Facebook and the App), here are the official results of the St Mary's School Board election. Thanks to everyone who put their names forward and thank you for voting.
