Signs of Suicide Program

Barry will be implementing the evidence-based process of Signs of Suicide (SOS) with our students this fall. This process reinforces Acknowledge, Care, Tell (ACT), as a way each of us can help when students are struggling. We began this process last winter with training staff, and this year’s expansion includes students. Our SOS parent letter provides more detail on the process that will be happening here at Barry School. The letter is included below.

Our school experienced the loss of a student to suicide last year. Aydin Phillips, died by suicide in February, and we continue to support our students, staff and families. Please reach out to us if you or your student is struggling.

Homecoming Reminder

Next week is homecoming week. We will dismiss 3 hours early on Friday. Please download the file below for more information.

Class Meetings

Students and staff participated in our 1st class meeting last Friday. Teachers and students participated in a human bingo activity, discussed bully prevention, and were reminded how to report bullying, tips, and give kudos using Safe Schools. Class meetings are scheduled every other Friday. Our next class meeting is scheduled for October 18th.

Volunteer Opportunity For Students

Students have the opportunity to volunteer at Harvesters on Thursday, October 3rd! Students who need service hours or need to make up points for the end of year incentive celebration can participate. We will leave Barry School by bus at 3:30 and return to Barry at 6:30. Students will need to be picked up by a parent at 6:30 at Barry. Students can stay after school and work on homework until the bus arrives at 4:00. A permission slip will be needed for students to participate. (Download the file below.)
