News from Eli Terry
A Peek Inside the Week - Sept. 2nd, 2022
Welcome back from the Eli Terry staff!
We were THRILLED to welcome all 504 of your children back to school on Wednesday. It was wonderful to have students back in our halls learning and playing alongside one another. The smiles and energy were contagious.
Based on the first 3 days, we think it's safe to say it's going to be an amazing school year!
A Note From Your Principals
This is the first newsletter of the 2022-23 school year!
These Friday updates are the primary way that Mr. Kenyon and I share important school-home communication on a regular basis.
Last fall we very intentionally made the transition to this Smore platform in an effort to strengthen the accessibility for all our families. We are resharing the video below to highlight the way each week's newsletter can be translated, as well as differentiated for reading preferences.
Our goal is to connect with each and every one of you as critical partners in your child's education. We hope throughout the year these newsletters provide you a thru-line to the amazing things happening within our school community!

**Important Safety Information** - Car Rider Dismissal
In order to keep all our students safe, with the car, bus, and pedestrian traffic in our parking lot at the end of the day, we’d like to remind families about the procedures for car rider pickup.
ALL students who have been assigned a car rider number, must be picked up in a vehicle, along the sidewalk. Families should not be meeting their child(ren) at the door.
The only exceptions to this are:
Kindergarten students who may be too small to enter the car and buckle themselves independently.
Families with special permission due to previously communicated circumstances.
In addition, in order to ensure our buses are able to get into the parking lot, families picking up in vehicles will be given priority over those being picked up outside the door.
In addition, any changes to your child's dismissal plans must be communicated to Mrs. Audrey Nieves (School Clerk) prior to 2PM. You can email her at: anieves@swindsor.k12.ct.us.
Please Join Us in Congratulating...
We could not be more lucky to have this amazing team and program at Eli Terry!
Congratulations Mrs. Brochu, Mrs. Gallitto, Mrs. Hooley, and the many paraprofessionals working to support our students. Our school community is SO proud of you and are honored to work alongside you!
PAWS - Helping Students Demonstrate Expected Behavior
PAWS stands for:
P - Personal Responsibility
A - Acting Safely
W - Working Together
S - Showing Respect
Over the course of this week and throughout the year, students will be explicitly taught what these behaviors look like, sound like, and feel like across the many settings of our school and even the bus!
Students can earn a PAWS card for exemplifying these expected behaviors and PAWS card raffles take place every Friday. Take a peek at the slides below to see the prizes/experiences every child has an opportunity to win!

This year PTO meetings will return to IN PERSON; meeting in the ET Library at 7PM. In addition, the PTO hopes that holding meetings every other month, as well as offering childcare will enable more parents/families to attend!
Our PTO does incredible things for our school community. Check out this flyer to learn more!
Please reach out to the PTO with any questions. You can email them at: sweliterrypto@gmail.com or connect via the PTO Facebook group.
**NEW** Calendar Feature
One question was whether it would be possible to make calendar dates/events "clickable" and "addable" to your own personal Google Calendars.
We are THRILLED to say we've added that feature! You'll see under the "Mark Your Calendars" section that each event is hyperlinked. If you click the link, you'll have the option to add it to your own Google Calendar.
We hope this helps ensure you never miss a spirit day, ET special event, or day off of school!
