Jackson Elementary's Mission and Vision
The Jackson staff, in partnership with the community, will prepare students for a better tomorrow by
- Using AVID strategies that support individual perseverance and academic success
- Engaging students in opportunities to collaborate and take ownership of their own learning
- Participating in goal setting, data-driven discussions, and focused instruction
- Creating an environment that fosters trust, encouragement, and positive relationships
Principally Speaking
Dear Parents/Guardians,
I want to thank our parents/guardians, families, and community members for their ongoing support of our students. This year, Jackson has begun our third year of being an AVID school. AVID, Advancement Via Individual Determination, helps students become more organized in their learning. We start with their desk, planner/notebook, and note taking and have begun the transition into more specific strategies for their learning. Students are now coming to school more organized and ready to learn. In most cases, they are teaching each other through collaboration and team building. We have constant conversation around our expectation for students to graduate from high school with a diploma. We begin every year with discussing what it means to be a Successful Student, so ask your child what that means, looks like, etc. Please continue to look over their homework, read with them nightly, and sign their planner or folder each day (Monday-Thursday). Together we can help our students be organized and successful.
Parent/Guardian/Teacher Conferences
Parents/Guardian/Teacher Conferences will be held on October 24th and 25th. Please sign up for a 30 minute conference with your child’s teacher. We encourage every parent/guardian to meet with your child’s teacher either in person or on the phone. This is a great time to discuss your child’s needs, academics, and answer any questions you may still have. We encourage you to bring your child with you to the conference so that they too can hear about their progress. Look for the sign-up sheet in your child’s ROAR folder, soon!
Family Activities
This year we are presenting our fourth annual Jackson Family Activities that will be happening in conjunction with our Parent/Guardian/Teacher Conferences on October 24-25. Once you are finished with your parent/teacher conferences, you can come to our school gym and participate in a variety of activities that you will be able to do with your child here at school or at home to help them with their academics. After attending the activities and your parent/guardian/teacher conference, you will have an opportunity to redeem a $5 book voucher at our Book Fair for each of your children (Jackson students only). We hope you will attend our Jackson Family Days as well as your Parent/Guardian/Teacher Conferences this year on October 24th and 25th.
As always, I appreciate your open communication and support of Andrew Jackson Elementary. If you need anything, please let us know.
Thank you,
Sara G. Miller
Principal, Jackson Elementary
