LES Veterans Parade Float Decorating
The Leonardtown Veterans Parade is one of the biggest in the region. LES has traditionally been the only school in SMCPS to have a float in the parade.
On Thursday, November 7th, we will be working with students to decorate and prepare our float for the parade. Students are hard at work learning patriotic songs and completing artwork to prepare for the parade.
On the evening of the float decorating, there will be hot chocoalate and pastries to enjoy while we work. Please plan to join us!
So that we can prepare, please RSVP that you are coming to join us in the fun! Students must be accompanied by a parent/guardian. Thank you
See you there!

Veterans Day Parade Participation
On Monday, November 11th, we need LES students to participate in the Veterans Parade. We need students to sing the patriotic songs they are learning, wave patriotic flags, display artwork they have completed, wear our osprey mascot and much more.
Students should meet at St. Mary's Ryken High School at 8:45 a.m. Parents/guardians may take the shuttle with students from Leonardtown Middel School to St. Mary's Ryken or students may be dropped off with LES school staff at St. Mary's Ryken.
If students are dropped off with staff at St. Mary's Ryken, parent/guardian may pick the student up after the parade at (Slice House 41565 Park Avenue Leonardtown, MD 20650).
So that we can prepare and have enough staff on hand to monitor students, please RSVP for the day of the parade.

From Desk of Administration
I would like to take this time to thank Mrs. Beth Stencel for all of her hard work and dedication to sustain the LES Outreach program. Mrs. Stencel will be stepping down in December, but her dedication to the program has left it in a great place to continue to support our families who may need a helping hand.
The Outreach Program was started in January 2013 at Leonardtown Elementary School. Concerned parents realized that some of our school families may sometimes experience tough times and need a helping hand. Knowing that the LES community is a strong and caring one, the LES Outreach program was created. LES Outreach is a parent-run program that assists families in need on a monthly basis.
Outreach families are identified through a screening process done by the school counselor. 100% of all donations, including monetary, go directly to the families in need. If you would like to be a supporter, donations can be dropped off at the Main Office at LES at any time throughout the school year.
DONATIONS CAN INCLUDE:
- Household cleaning supplies (all-purpose cleaner (Ex. 409 or Clorox wipes) dish-washing soap (Ex. Dawn), bleach, laundry detergent, hand soap, vinegar, Lysol spray.
- Non-perishable food items (cereal, oatmeal, pancake mix, canned meat
- (tuna/chicken), canned spaghetti, beef a roni etc., roman noodles, mac and cheese, spaghetti, spaghetti sauce, P&J and school snacks (fruit snacks, potato chips, Oreos, fruit cups, apple sauce, granola bars, animal crackers etc.)
- Toiletry (bath soaps/gels, shampoo/conditioner (many prefer Suave), toothpaste and body lotion
- Household consumables (toilet paper, paper towels)
We really appreciate any and all donations!
Information Worth Repeating
Halloween/Fall Parade
LES will hold our Halloween/Fall Parade on Thursday, October 31.
The parade will begin at 2:45 p.m. with our Kindergarten students leading us out the Kindergarten side doors onto the sidewalk in front of the bus loop. We will proceed along the sidewalk to the blacktop of the bus loop in front of the school building and then back into the school through the 5th-grade doors.
Parent viewing areas will be the blacktop in the car pick up loop area and along the sidewalk in front of the bus loop area.
If applicable, each grade level or class will communicate their party times and needs.
We ask that you avoid any costumes that perpetuate violence, have any blood, gore, scary masks, or contain any type of weapons. Props that come with costumes that are play weapons are not allowed in school. This includes, but is not limited to, toy guns, knives, swords, sickles, pitchforks, etc. Costumes should be worn to school.
Please park in the staff parking lot or walk to the parade from Duke Street. Parking will NOT be permitted in the bus loop.
If there is rain, there will not be a rain date for the parade, but the classroom parties will proceed.
If you prefer that your child does not take part in the Halloween Parade and/or party, please send a note to your child’s teacher or contact Dr. Quick-McQueen or Mr. LaCount.
Don't Delay, Join Your PTA!
Dear LES Families,
Thank you for making our first Read-a-thon a success! Together we raised over $4000 with all the money going back to support our programs for this year. A special thanks to Melissa Rodriguez for organizing this fundraiser and the author visit. We will be at school on Monday finishing up prize bags for students, so if you would like to still donate we will accept donations turned in tomorrow.
November is a busy month for the PTA! Melinda Cox and Kimberly Gilbert have again organized a fun Donuts with Dad event. Please note there was an error on our part with last names last week:
Thursday November 14th 8-845am (last names A-L)
Friday November 15th 8-845am (last names M-Z)
Forms will be sent home with students soon to RSVP for this free event.
Our spiritwear chair, Katy Peters, has been working with a local company Ink Deli to have more LES apparel to purchase online. At our General October board meeting we voted on the new LES logo that will be featured on hoodies, T-shirts and winter hats! A flier will be coming soon with the link to purchase your student’s LES spiritwear.
Lastly, our Teacher Appreciation co-chairs Melissa Reuter and Kathryn Weatherly will be organizing a Soup and Salads lunch for the LES staff on Thursday November 14th. If you have signed up to be a volunteer this year, please look out for an email to sign up to bring in food.
Thank you again for all your support.
Smiles,
Your LES PTA
