Riverside Report
October 2020
A Message From Mr. Kampmann
Week 7!!! It is hard to believe that we are already wrapping up our 7th week of school! Seeing all the smiling students engaged in learning confirms that all of the time planning and implementing changes to our environment has been very worthwhile. On behalf of the Riverside staff I would like to thank all of our students and their families for their cooperation and flexibility.
In the coming weeks and months we will need your cooperation more than ever. According to current D.C. Everest, CDC, and Marathon County Health Department COVID protocols, when one of our students or staff members exhibits symptoms, reports they have tested positive for COVID-19, or are identified as a close contact to a confirmed case of COVID-19, they are required to isolate or quarantine. A student or staff member would be isolated if they are showing symptoms of COVID-19. A student or staff member would be quarantined if they have been identified as a close contact to an individual who has tested positive for COVID-19, or themselves test positive. Although students or staff who are identified as close contacts may not exhibit COVID-19 symptoms, they must quarantine at home. This chart from WDHS explains quarantine and isolation procedures.
Quarantined students are expected to participate in daily learning through our Canvas platform. Since the beginning of the school year teachers have been working with students to familiarize them with how to log in and participate in online learning. While we know that remote/at-home learning is not exactly the same as being in class, it will help students keep up with their class so they can seamlessly join the classroom upon their return to in-person instruction. Parents please ensure that if your child is home from school and are healthy enough to participate in learning that they are logging in to Canvas daily. If your student is ill, please contact our attendance office so we may notify your child’s teacher.
Another way you can help us continue in-person learning is by utilizing our district Daily Health Screening Checklist and keeping students who are not feeling well — or have immediate family members who are not feeling well — home from school. Following guidelines like this are critical to our ability to keep our doors open to students.
As a building we also are looking to hire individuals to serve as substitute teachers and substitute teacher assistants. If you were a parent who regularly volunteered in your child’s classroom, I would encourage you to consider being added to our teacher assistant sub list. You often hear that it takes a village to raise a child, we truly do need our village and community’s support to keep in-person learning available for our youth.
Thank you for your ongoing support,
Mr. Kampmann

Halloween Parties
We are excited to be able to have a Halloween party this year. With the changes to the school year things will look a little different.
First, if you would like to donate something for the party, all items must be individually packaged and brought to school by Monday October 26. Please check with your teacher for what is needed for your classroom.
Also, with the possibility of no trick-or-treating check with your teacher about bringing in "treats" if you'd like to bring individually wrapped candy treats with no nut products.
Finally, instructions for dressing up. This year we can not allow costume masks to be a part of the outfit, as the regular face covering must stay intact. To avoid an abundance of people in the restroom, costumes must to be something that slips over the clothing in the hallway/classroom. No one will be sent to change in a bathroom. Other expectations remain the same as in the past. No blood capsules, no make-up, and no weapons to be carried with a costume.
Thank you for helping us create this option and continuing the tradition of doing special events for our students. Note that we will not be conducting the Halloween Parade this year. Please let your teacher know if your child should not participate in this event.
Health
In an effort to keep our students, staff, families, and community informed of positive cases reported to our district, we have launched a COVID-19 dashboard. The spread of COVID in our community is currently very high. Now, more than ever, it is important that students utilize our Health Screening Checklist on a daily basis and remain home if they are exhibiting symptoms of COVID. Your children may be Quarantined from school, for 14 days, if they have been identified as having COVID or being a close contact to someone with COVID. Your student may be placed in isolation, for 10 days, if they are exhibiting symptoms. Please make sure to contact our Health Associate- Megan Matthiae, mmatthiae@dce.k12.wi.us with questions or documentation, or our district nurse Roxie Kenitzer, rkenitzer@dce.k12.wi.us
