Hello Falcon Families,

I am so excited to welcome you back to another Fantastic Falcon school year and the 1st edition of the weekly newsletter. I would also like to welcome all of our new Falcon Families. This is truly a special place and I am very excited for your students to be joining us. Even though it seems like this summer has been a whirlwind, I hope you have had some time for relaxation, sunshine, and plenty of fun.

The new school year is quickly approaching. I know that many of you are anxious, worried, and still confused about what school will be like this year as we move into Virtual Learning. I understand and share your concerns. We are still working out some of the details, but please know the Falcon team of teachers and support staff are here to help all of our students find success both academically and socio-emotionally. These are extraordinary times and we must come together as a 92127 community to help our families and neighbors through this difficult and challenging time. We love your kiddos and are so excited to get back into the groove of school. Below are some important updates and information including the schedule for Virtual Learning to assist you as we approach the beginning of the new school year.

We have adjusted the start and end times of the day slightly to align with other schools in PUSD. Students will be engaged in a homeroom type class that will focus on social-emotional learning twice a week called Falcon Connections. Students will also have access to teacher office hours/tutorial where they can get extra help three times a week. Please note that this schedule may be adjusted as needed based on any new information and direction given from the district office.

As principals across the district were planning the Virtual Learning schedules, our focus was on designing a system that would allow for:

• Building belonging in classrooms/school communities
• Learner centered
• Social-emotional learning
• Longer blocks of learning time
• Proactive office hours/tutorials
• Letter grades for classes
• Live instruction and touch points throughout the day
• Whole group, small group and Independent learning in each class
• Following our normal site bell time schedule

There is still lots of work to do planing and training as teachers begin to return to work soon. I will be providing more information and details on our Virtual Learning plan as we approach the start of school.

Most families have completed the online registration document process last Spring. If you still need to turn in your PUSD Signature Verification Form (reminder: both you and your student need to sign this form!), and/or the Student Health Form (7th graders only), we will collect those at registration; as well as the 2020-2021 Student Chromebook Checkout Form.

We will be doing a drive-thru, a la promotion last year, textbook pick-up Registration process this year. Families will drive-thru the parking lot and pick-up the textbooks and other items. Our ASB students will be sponsoring a textbook pick-up party with an opportunity for students to exit the car and take a picture next to some banners welcoming them back home to Oak Valley or joining us as Falcons for the first time. We look forward to seeing those smiling faces!!

August Registration Dates are:

August 25 -- 6th Grade: 8:00-11:00 and 12:00pm-3:00pm

August 26 -- 7th Grade: 8:00-11:00 and 12:00pm-3:00pm

August 27 -- 8th Grade: 8:00-11:00 and 12:00pm-3:00pm

Make-up Registration

August 31 -- All Grades: 5:00pm-6:00pm

If you have more than one student that attends Oak Valley, please come on the date assigned to your youngest child.

Please make sure you have completed the online Continuing Student Registration process and forms via Synergy Parent VUE before coming to registration. If you have not completed this process, please use this LINK for more detailed information.
