Burbank Bulletin

June 11, 2019

This week’s edition of the Burbank Bulletin will close out the school year. It’s been a fantastic year, and I am tremendously proud of the commitment and accomplishments of our staff and students. The 2018-2019 school year brought even more offerings to strengthen our academic programming and support our school’s collective mission “to build wisdom, knowledge, respect, responsibility, and compassion by engaging the head, hands, and heart of each one of our students.” Most recently, we concluded the third year of our advisory program with what initially appears to be very strong results from our student feedback survey. We have deepened our practices around mathematical mindset, co-teaching, readers and writers workshop, and technology integration to empower and engage student learning. Equally important, we have expanded our students’ talents through our wide variety of extra-curricular opportunities, and our 7th and 8th grade band just blew the top off of Great East and took home platinum. Next year, we will look to even further expand our programming and offerings as we strive for continual growth on a variety of fronts.

Enjoy the time that the summer weeks have to offer. Feel free to stop into the office to say “hello” if you are in the neighborhood. My door is always open, and I always love the company.

It truly is an honor and a privilege to serve the Lancaster community as principal, and I look forward to another great year ahead.

Yours in partnership,

Laura Friend

2018-2019 School Council Parent Survey

Please take some time to complete the School Council Parent Survey before the end of the year. The link to this survey was shared with you via separate email. Feedback from parents, students, and staff really helps us gain a broader perspective on the school year. Your feedback is an important part of this process. Our survey will close on Tuesday, June 18th.

LBMS Book Swap

Do you have any middle school appropriate books that your children have already read? Would you be willing to part with them knowing they could be enjoyed by your child's classmates? Would you like your child to have easy access to books of their choosing this summer?

We're excited to announce plans for a Book Swap again this Thursday, June 13th. Please check your bookshelves to see what you might be willing to contribute. We're looking to circulate gently used books in preparation for the summer break. Happy reading!

A Reminder About Field Day, Friday, June 14th

We are keeping our fingers crossed that the weather will hold for Friday's field day plans! I keep peeking at the forecast, and it's looking better and better... Like I said, fingers crossed!

Please help us ensure a safe and fun-filled day for students with the following reminders:

  • Sneakers are a MUST

  • Bring water bottles (water only). We will have water refill stations.

  • Wear and bring sunscreen

  • Hats are welcome

  • Apply bug spray at home

  • And, of course, bring a great attitude!

We are also requesting donations of water to help further support our students' hydration. All donations of 12-24 oz. water bottles will gladly be accepted in the school office up until June 14th. Thank you for your support!
